I know this will mostly be opinion based, but I wanted to ask anyways: I recently tried ordering an MSI 1070 Gamer X locally, and it was out of stock. They're honoring the price and replacing it with a different model 1070. They originally offered an Asus Strix at the same price: https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING/ I asked about possibly subbing in another brand, and they mentioned the EVGA FTW2 and SC Gaming 1070s were available, along with the Zotac Amp! (not extreme). Keep in mind, this card is complete and total overkill for what I'll be using it for. Most likely WoW and HoTS at 1440 or 4K. As far as noise, temps, and reliability/warranty, what would you guys pick? I normally would say the EVGA FTW2, because I know EVGA is awesome with warranty, but I know they had heat issues when the line was first released? I'm completely unfamiliar with the Zotac brand, but visually it's the most attractive card. From what I was reading the Strix seems to be the coolest/quietest of the bunch. For the record, this will be used with a 3570K at 4.4Ghz. Only games I really play is WoW, HoTS, no FPS or anything intensive. After the upgrade I'll be looking at 1440 and 4K monitors.
Gigabyte Xtreme cards are awesome. 1070 is not a great card for 1440p max (or even near max) settings. Let alone 4k. You need 1080 (ti).
I think MSI is currently making some of the best GPUs out there. More power phases, better VRM cooling, and nice coolers for the price. I kinda wish i had gotten the MSI instead of the Gigabyte because it has like two more power phases and a nicer cooler for the same price. To be fair, i have had no problem with this Gigabyte 1070 but i have had issues with their cards in the past. 1070 is plenty for 2560x1440 but you will have to turn detail or antialiasing down at 4K.
1440p is easy for a 1070, unless you use silly AA settings or want higher FPS on a 144hz display. The overall balance of what you can do with games @ 1440p or higher on a 1070 strongly outweighs the limitations you may find at higher settings with difficult titles. And even on the toughest titles you can reduce a few settings (mostly just AA) and still be happier than maxing out at a lower res, and it will still look better imo. Pretty happy with 4k performance on mine. Although tend to use 21:9 custom res (3840x1620) which is about 25% less pixels. Example, my ROTR bench at 3840x1620 maxed out (but FXAA): Spoiler Most will be happy with that but some will gripe and moan they're not doing 100+ FPS or 16xAA and that only a 1080ti will justify a higher res. re brand preference, read up on some reviews. I hear Evga has greatly improved their cooling performance after a cooler redesign.
Hey, I'd recommend the Asus Strix, stays cool, not much noise, maybe want to check if you have the room for this monster, but that's a good card imo. Too bad you can't get the MSI gaming X, feels like the best 1070 to me.
If you care about noise I'd stay away from the non-FTW EVGA line pre-ICX. I have an SC model which is awesome in every way but those little 90mm fans are very noticeable over 50% (~1800rpm) and downright loud by 60% (~2160rpm), which is basically required to keep the card under 75 degrees. Mine throttles at 72C, incidentally.
Never make topics like this, as its useless. Everyone will suggest what they have as the best choice, while in reality any card can be faulty. Go for the one that appeals you the most. Id personally choose from large variety of ASUS/ MSI/ Gigabyte/ EVGA/ Palit. Cheers.
why the F*** did prices sky rocket this month for these cards?? 550 and 600 is the least price u can find on ebay and newegg, whats happening, i was planning on getting a 1070 after selling my 970
I have't been given a reason to regret buying my EVGA GTX 1070 SC 8 GB and I bought it back in Late Feb of this year.
