I just got the asus rog strix z270f motherboard. Other parts are yet to arrive. Here's what the problem is. I have just the mobo for now.. no cpu gpu hdd or ram. I saw videos of people claiming that you can run the mobo with fans without any other components installed. Edit - one thing i forgot to tell that all four of the usb ports at the front panel are working because i connected my phone through usb and it started charging. So i tried to do the same. Connected all the i/o switches and the 24pin atx connector from the psu. Whats happening is when i power on the psu, only the strix led and a tiny red power led lights up but when i press the power button on the cabinet nothing happens. The strix led keeps pulsating. I also tried to jump start the mobo by joing the power pins directly but still nothing happens. I have attached case speaker too but that also doesn't beeps for the missing parts. So my question is the mobo faulty or it simply wont work without cpu and ram.??? Note - psu is working perfectly in my other build nothing wrong with that. Case - cooler master stryker Psu - corsair vs 650
Devices charging at USB ports mean only that power has arrived to ports. Without CPU you MB has nothing to do after all its parts are powered. Also without CPU there is no RAM and PCI-E bus (hence the GPU and disks too). Without RAM computer will not start either because CPU executes code loaded to RAM. Without GPU you can`t even see what is going on. So just wait for other parts.
I feel for you man, such an urgent problem! Its going to ruin your computing experience if the fans dont run with nothing else plugged in, what are you going to do?
If Asus had stated in their specs it should do this then it might have raised an eyebrow should it not work. I'm not seeing any urgency, it hasnt prevented you from doing anything.
Actually i am newbie and didnt really knew much about it. I thought at least the fans would power up but the power button did nothing so i got worried.. Anyways i am relaxed now.
You can hook a speaker to the 4 pin speaker terminal on the motherboard (where the power and reset switch plugs go). This is used to report problems, it gives a code of beeps depending on the problem. It should beep telling you something is missing, the manual may say how to decipher the beep code. If not, you can look the code up online but be aware, different bios mfrs have some different codes. Thats about as far as you can go until you populate the board. If it beeps its not completely dead but thats about as far as it can help at this point.
You can plug speakers into the rear ports or other audio headers on the motherboard. I dont know that you have done it right, your description lacks detail.
