Any difference between ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX and MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X?

Looking to upgrade my 980 to one of these bad boys. They both seem like great cards I just wanted some feedback/opinions on if there is a major difference between the two that I'm missing or if it just comes down to preference. Also open to any suggestions of cards that are better in your opinion. Thanks!

I did upgrade from 980 to 1070. Wasn't happy about it, maybe because my 980 was overclocking like a boss to almost 980ti stock performance (Firestrike graphic score of 16560), was much happier with a 1080.
So 1080 is your good upgrade.
    I vote MSI.

The MSI one will be quieter. At least that's how it was when I compared my MSI 1080 Gaming X and my current ASUS 1080 Strix. My Asus was faster though (OC version) but MSI also has a Gaming Z version which is pretty fast.

I'd agree with the above, a 1080 is a better upgrade from 980.

A 1070 is basically (performancewise) a factory oc'ed 980 Ti meaning you're looking at an around 20-30 % performance increase only.

Try to save up for a 1080 or wait a bit longer for AMD Vega. Also 1080 Ti is just around the corner which could drop 1080 prices a bit.

If you really want to stick to getting a 1070, as I had both cards (the MSI first, performances were fine but there were artifacts due to micron memory issues, it was before the whole vBIOS release to fix it, so I returned it), I'd say go for the Strix if budget isn't an issue.

From what I tested, the Strix is a bit cooler, noise is a non-issue in both cases, and performances were a tiny bit better on the Strix (although take into consideration that I picked the factory OC'd one, so I might be wrong).

They are pretty even in the end, both are very good cards, take what's cheapest and according to which brand you like more.
