Is there any other meaning to the X moniker on the 1700X and 1800X other than being a 95W part instead of a 65W one? In other words is there any actual difference between the 1700 and 1700X besides the default clock speed?

Any intel on what precisely the difference between the 1700X and 1700 is or is that still a NDA thing?

If it's truly XFR it could be foregone as manual OC should be equally good if not better.

Anyhow, in my next purchase I'm interested in proper virtualization support with IO forwarding.

Hilbert, sorry for asking this again, but do you have any news about a possible release date for the six core parts?

    Thanks!

Also, the 1700 seems a killer cpu!

    Ryzen 7 1700...hmm

    15% faster than i7 7700 in fully multi-threaded workload (handbrake), while having +100% of cores/threeads, and maybe - 200MHz.

$329 might very well translate as 400 euros in EU.

If by any chance AMD price is "too good", retailers will simply increase their prices.

Schweet! Time to retire the old 2500K, or maybe turn it into an HTPC.

The X models simply are better binned ones, thet get faster and higher on the max XFR range.

    Ok thanks!!!

This means at least another month and i don´t know if i can wait that long...
It seems my next build is gonna be based around a 7600K even if the 1600X seems better...

As someone who used to buy AMD back in the Athlon 64 days, but left for Intel due to AMDs terrible IPC performance, I am glad to see the very real possibility of my next processor being AMD. The fact that their flagship beats up intels for less than half the price is pretty remarkable. So long as AMD has enough in supply these CPUs could sell like hot cakes. I wonder if Intel saw this coming and has an answer? I am also really interested in overclocking performance, if the 1800x can easily hit 4.5Ghz on air it will be a force to be reckoned with for $500.

Ughhh..... I'm tired of waiting..... But, as long as ITX boards aren't available, I guess that doesn't matter. Besides, the results of the 8-cores should be more than enough info to know whether building an AMD rig is worth it. If the rumors so far hold up, it seems it will be.

Also, I personally would consider any of the 8-core models to be overkill for gaming purposes. There aren't many games out there that would even bottleneck an overclocked i5.

Well, I am surprised it didn't flop. Though one never knows when a TLB bug strikes again...
Ok, good for them. I will still buy Intel.

Will be looking for a proper review. Here, on Guru3d of course.

@HH tell me you are going to review all 3 units and put comparison to all intel counterparts (i5/i7/6core/8core) so we can see the full picture.

Can you explain what XFR is?

AMD's automatic CPU OC feature depending on the cooling solution applied. The better the cooling the higher it'll drive itself automatically. So the theory anyway.

Until it's been thoroughly tested I'll remain sceptic, for we all know what 'auto' VCore on boards can do with increased clocks :nerd:

I doubt however that XFR could pull better numbers but at best equal ones to manual OC'ing. It undoubtedly however makes the process a lot simpler for anyone that doesn't want to deal with BIOS and testing.

So from a day to day overclockers point of view there's no reason in getting the 1800x , just get the 1700x, or even 1700?

I guess? Except if you are one of those who don't like to tinker their CPU or don't know how to? Oh boy can't wait the full reviews to come up.
