Samsung 960 EVO M2 or Crucial MX300 M2 ?

    Hello.

Recently updated my rig, I can now enjoy games so much more, but now I notice that 250go of storage might be a bit light, so I'm thinking of getting the best out of my mobo's features, and use those M2 slots.

I stumbled upon those 2 M2 SSDs, and they actually are at the same price (150€ ~~), after some reviews reading, I saw that the 960 is A LOT faster than the MX300, although I was wondering :

Will it make a big difference in games ? Is the NVMe worth cutting the storage capacity in half ?

I don't really mind the performance of my SSD as long as it is equivalent to my current 850 EVO (which satisfies me for the time being), what I need is storage capacity.

The answer might be obvious, but I don't know a lot about M2, I might lack informations.

    Thanks a lot !

It will perform similarly to 850 evo so if you'd rather have the storage space then go for it.

If you have a free sata port, and space is more important than speed, get the MX300. You can get an M.2 SSD later if you at some point want to test if it makes a difference. Going for speed solves nothing if space is what you need, after all.

When I talk about the MX300, I'm talking about the M2 version of the Crucial SSD. I'd rather buy a M2 one because it's much more easy to install (I spent so much time getting a perfect cable management, adding another SATA cable is going to **** this up :>). Anyway where I live, the prices between "regular SSDs" and M2 are fairly even.

That confirms what I was thinking, although I'm still wondering, is the difference in performance between a MX300 and a 960 EVO will affect drastically performances in game ? (according to benchmarks it doesn't, but I've seen some feedback saying it's really noticeable)

Note that I don't use any software that might take advantage of faster storage, plus I'll keep my OS on my 850 EVO.

    Thanks guys !

yeah Crucial makes some solid SSDs these days.

My system has all Samsung SSDs though as I want large SSDs which Crucial doesn't offer unfortunately

My god this is some laptop, probably runs better than my rig, if I may ask, how much did you pay for it ? And doesn't it get too hot CPU/GPU wise ?
