I think our level of hardware has surpassed the playable resolution limits of 1080p yet many still think their cards cant handle higher than that to this day. 4k may not be a reasonable gaming res yet, but 1440p today is easier to run than 1080p was just 5 years ago. Do people still think the tradeoff of higher FPS on 1080p warrants not going beyond that despite having capable cards of easily running virtually everything today on a higher res? I mean seriously, have seen peeps with gtx1080s still on 1080p to this day for the 'extra FPS'. Personally think its a waste of hardware potential, but each to their own.

In Guru3d GPU reviews, Hilbert comments from back to gtx 780 days.

Yes, HH comments were in context of the games around when cards reviewed, but with latest GPUs they are even more relevant today. I laugh when people throwing out BS like 980ti/1070 are 1080p cards (I'm not making this up :D) and is why they wont move to a higher res. By same argument, should have stuck to 1280x1024 when 1080p was becoming mainstream many years ago.

Thoughts? Do you feel your GPUs are capable of providing a satisfying gaming experience beyond 1080p today?

(p.s. sorry, meant it to be a poll, but missed that at posting).

    1440p on 27inch panel.

using 970gtx to run 1440@96fps. Everything is stable on high settings without or minimum MSAA.

2880x1620 DSR, 90% of the time, unless its really too much and I cant keep 60fps with somewhat max settings. then 1440p or even 1080p.

1080GTX @1080p, trying to always get that 120 fps.

2560x1440 since getting this new screen, was happily chugging along @ 1080p for years before that

Got the screen running @ 110Hz, not I get 110fps in many games atm but rarely see any tearing with vSync disabled vs 1080 60 screens

Is it too obvious to say that my preferred gaming resolution is whatever is the native resolution of a monitor? I've got a 1920x1200@60 monitor that suits me fine, so that's the resolution I want to game at with 60fps or more.

1080p/60hz becouse am forced to. Have kinda aging hardware and thats the best i can do. Lowering the graphics quality is also involved in some cases just to reach that goal.

I run 1080p on desktop and 1440p dsr in games vsync on, i play the division mostly and it runs smooth most of the time, any thing higher and i just dont see much difference on my Samsung 40" tv.

1920x1080@60hz. Looks good enough and isn't a money sink.

Also my monitor's 24" and I've no interest in a bigger unit.

    Im stuck with 1920x1200 60hz. I would love to have a 21:9 screen :D
I totally love widescreen. My monitor looks like 4:3 after playing on a friends 21:9 one lol

Yeah that's probably when I'll get a new monitor: When 21:9 gets more mainstream and the average bandwidth on GPU's is capable of pulling it off as well.

Currently anything higher then 1080p feels like a money sink because you'll be upgrading so fast that your wallet can't keep up to maintain decent framerates.

3 years on 1440p, since my gtx 770 days. Even with lowered settings preferred that to 1080p w/higher settings. Moved to 970 and everything all good. 1070 virtually every game maxed out, only level of AA adjusted, less required than when on 1080p.

I´m stuck at full HD because better screens are expensive as hell!!!

An entry 4K monitor is over 500€ and a 2560x1440 is the same price or sometimes is even more expensive!!!

So until i can find a good screen below the 400€ mark, my resolution is going to be 1920x1080...

1080p on the PC and 4k on the TV, FPS wise i am not locked into a cerain amount, as long as it's not constant massive drops that slow everything down to a crawl i am fine, of course i ditched fps and temp counters years ago, i spent far to much time stripping the PC to bit's more than use it if either were not always at the top level, bloody things control you after a while, i just play and enjoy now, i did my time with those. lol

    I don't care, as long as it's 16:10!

Oh '1080p' TVs have a lot to answer for, spreading less resolution to PC monitors as a sales tactic because '1080p' was associated with 'HD'. Thankyou marketing.

Why would anyone ever want less vertical resolution? Take your fave 16:9 monitor, add extra height -- bingo! How awesome would that be? More immersive gaming, more desktop space for working, it's win all around.

Hello monitor manufacturers? *watches tumbleweed blow by*

I have a 34" 21.9 wide screen 3440x1440 and DSR maxed. Video cards also maxed and NO issues at all.

I still prefer to play at 1080p, but on a 144Hz screen.
I just prefer the extra smoothness and it improves gameplay.

The problem is that i live in Portugal where the choice is scarce and expensive...

For example, it´s much more easy to found a 4K monitor on sale than a 2560x1440... And the prices are very similar like i said... That´s why my next screen is probably going to be a 4K.

Living in Portugal is amazing in lots os aspects but buying computar hardware isn´t one of them.
