Amazon has a new service that makes Google Fiber seem slow. It actually rides on 18 wheels and is a truck moving around a huge HDD. http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/am...nsfer-petabytes-of-data-faster-than-ever.html
For that moment when your friend asks for your porn stash. ****s and giggles aside, I've never thought that a manual haul will ever be considered as the faster way to move data around.
My boss is going to be freaking out for the next week because of this, and not in a good way... But I'm not surprised amazon has finally gotten into this market.
At work, there have been times it's been quicker to next day mail someone a USB drive with data on than try to send it over the net. Encrypted, of course .
We use encrypted drives as well in our unit but you have to get through an asston of paperwork to get issued with one. Thank god they didn't block all the filesharing websites at least. (unless you bypass the proxies and don't give a damn  )
It was in the article... It takes about 10 days to fill/empty the truck. So you are looking at about 22 days for the full move (from SF to NYC) if everything goes smoothly.
