So from what I've been reading this seems fairly complicated. I've been googling this but it has me somewhat confused. How do you go about installing windows 10 on a 950 pro? Do you have to first install windows to a sata ssd then format the 950 pro and install the drivers to it and then install windows to that the way you normally would from USB?
Do I need to make a UEFI boot USB drive to install Windows 10 from in order to get UEFI working on the SSD?
I have Windows on a Plextor M.2 SSD. Getting Windows installed was surprisingly straightforward (Started with a Windows 8.1 that I upgraded to 10). Worked even with the Samsung 950Pro SATA attached. But the technology seems to have it's quirks still. Between BIOS updates my BIOS would suddenly no longer detect the M.2 as boot device and boot to the UEFI interface. There I could manually select the M.2 to boot from just fine. Worth noting: I never changed the BIOS settings in anyway. Then one day a game froze the system so I had to press reset. Ever since then the system boots right through from the M.2 again, go figure....
On my X99 deluxe, I just booted using a usb Installer of Windows 10..And the installer right away recognizes my 950 Pro M.2...It was very straight foreward...The same as installing on a sata SSD...
You can make a MBR Windows 10 USB install if you want. Not sure why you would if you support UEFI. But Rufus can do it, and the regular old Windows USB setup will do it if you are booted into Windows using MBR.
It will do GPT if you are booted into a GPT Windows installation when you make it. It chooses MBR or UEFI depending on what you are running currently booted when you go to make it. Rufus will let you choose what you want regardless.
? Windows 10 will boot on legacy just fine, just updated a 9 year old single core laptop to RS1 lastnight Depends how you make the USB drive with Rufus or whatever you use
