So right now I have an AMD Phenom x6 1070T that turbos to 3.5GHz and honestly it still does pretty well for most things, BUT I think its time to move forward and my favorite game, Kerbal Space Program, has significant slowdown issues when many parts are in physics load. Also, I'm running an Nvidia GTX960 FTW 4GB.

I'm upgrading to skylake with the Intell i5-6600k with this package: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3020936 and using this CPU cooler : http://www.xigmatek.com/product.php?productid=104&type=overview and while it doesn't specify that it is compatible with the 1151, it was produced before the 1151 came out, and it IS compatible with 1150/1155 and from the research I've done... if it works for those sockets, it will be fine for 1151. Has a backplate to help support the weight, but I've heard about bending issues....

I'm just checking in with you guys to make sure that there aren't any better deals out there for me or anything I missed. If I can save around $40, I'm definitely getting a budget SSD to load OS and a couple games on.

I would say pick up a AIO cooler for the 6600K

be careful with using old cpu coolers with skylake cpu as some of the old coolers that say there are compatable with the 1151 socket , if over tightened they will bend the pcb the cpu is on , i've read a few posts maybe on here somewhere where this has happened

skylake cpu have a much thinner pcb compared to the 1150 and 1155 socket cpus so they can't take the same amount of mounting pressure
just a heads up that all :) good luck with your upgrade

$358 for 6600K, mobo and ram is a pretty good deal still.

The memory is a bit sucky for DDR4 though.

He's not hitting 4.8 on that cooler he has. 4.4 will most likely be pushing it
