that they just don't want to let go of...and even keep tinkering with it, finding old parts on ebay to upgrade it? lol

    My old rig:

    cpu: Q6600 @3.5ghz (great proc)
    Mobo: Abit IP35 Pro
    mem: 8gb ddr2
    video card: 9600

I know it sounds stupid, but since I just upgraded my video card to a 1070, I have 2 970's that don't have a home. Just for grins, I found a Asus 775 680i mobo, and 8 more gig of ddr2 on ebay. Going load it all up, and see how it benches. Think my cpu will bottleneck the 970's? LOL!

Yes it will. Definately. Would even bottleneck something like a 680 probably :D

Makes me wonder what I should do with my old trusty Q8200 and it's still working rig that's residing in my storage room...

I used to have a Q6600, but I was tired of going through EVGA motherboards every year or two so I sold it when I bought the part for this one.

    I think I went through 5 or 6 750i SLI FTW's, lol

I got the old board in, and have SLI running now. But because the technology is so old, I'm wondering if a single 970 would be faster, as the cpu might not be able to feed two cards at a decent rate. lol

Get the 771 mod and a Xeon ! Is the best upgrade for that platform.

    I'm still having my old high-end platform:nerd:
    Opteron 185
    DFI Lan Party NF4 Ultra
    OCZ Platinum DDR1 600MHZ 4x512Mb

Q6600 rig still in service here too. (Desktop PC #5)
    4gb ram
    HD6970 2GB

Mostly used as an HTPC but still capable of running many games just fine. I even gave it a new case and added USB 3.0 a few months ago. I think it's about to get donated to a person in need though. Then, my 1st gen i7 860 rig will be oldest.

Damn I still have my DFI Lanparty P45, I kinda miss those UV sensitive PCIs and RAM slots.

Wonder what happened to DFI, just all of a sudden gone, I remembered mine overclock really well and stable. Haven't check back on mine, probably should this weekend.

The oldest PC I still got left is my X58. I might clean it up and reuse it in the future.

My son runs a Q6600 @3.0 4GB DDR2 GTX750ti and plays Rust Ark and GTAV all mainly low settings but seems to run fine.

My old computer, is currently my main computer.

Feast your eyes on the glorious Q6600 goddess.

It's still a viable CPU for my surfing, video playing needs.
I haven't loaded up any games and not planning too.

I don't plan on building a new computer until something interesting
comes along, 6/8 core maybe, HBM2 video cards etc. Most that is out
at the moment just feels like more of the same.

Were those the yellow boards back in the day? I seem to recall them being very highly regarded.
