This time next week I'll have the cash to upgrade my gpu and looking at the performance benchmarks I'm not entirely sure which card to go for but I also reckon many other people are asking this same question themselves. (For reference the specs in my profile are up to date). Here we have the 480 Nitro 8GB which will be £240 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-37c-sp.html (or do I spend another £10 for the Nitro+?) Then, we have the Fury https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sapp...rd-with-backplate-11247-03-40g-gx-377-sp.html for £300 or do I go green and get a 1060 with prices from £230 (more realistically £250 for a good version). With the 480, we're seeing benchmarks where performance can range from that equivalent of a 970/290/390 to that of upto 980/Fury/Nano but the performance difference at 1080p between the 480 and a Fury doesn't really seem to be that much and then we have the 1060 which again shows performance between a similar margin starting off at 970 levels even reaching 980 ti levels. I'm thinking going for a Fury but concerned that the 4GB VRAM could be a problem later on (although if I use my 285 as an example, gcn 1.2 has been really good on vram usage). My main concern is though I'll want to get the best I can for longevity sake, AMD seems to have that in the bag and their cards have shown the least performance losses over time as new titles come out (if anything, showing performance increases over time through driver performance enhancements) where as nVidia cards seem to have their performance maxed out right at the start with little improvement over time. I'm just not really sure what to go for, ideally I'd like to see from nVidia, a card inbetween the 1060 and 1070 (so perhaps a 1060 ti) as there isn't really anything that fills the price and performance gap between those cards but from AMD's offerings, I'm just not sure at the moment.
Best for longetivity sake would be 1070. But it depends on what games you play, your monitor resolution and if you willing to lower video settings. Quality brand second hand 970 would just as good. Figure out what resolution you wanna play on, games, graphics quality, and what frames rates you aim at.
If you're considering the likes of the Fury, it seems you're fine with a 4GB card. I don't really see that being an issue for 1080p, and if that's the case you could save yourself £100 and pick up a Radeon RX 480 Nitro+ 4096MB for £200 from OCUK. Seems like a solid deal to me tbh. Remember that if you go with the Fury, the comparable card is the 4GB 480, not the 8GB. It will depend on what resolution you'll be gaming at for the next couple of years more than anything, as well as what games you play to a lesser extent.
Do the same as i did If you find the Promo. On the first Hand i have RX 480 AIB for 299€-320€ Then i saw the Promo for Fury Nitro OC+ for 349€ Then 1070 for ~469€ I ended up with Nitro OC+ FIji (it can be unlocked, im lucky) Every Game i play now in ~1080p (1620:1280 5:4 custom res.) can be Maxed and fury is on 935MHz 550HBM 75FPS constant in BF:H Mantle It's a nice GPU IMO
1070 simply put, is too expensive. Yeah I'll be gaming at 1080p as well and I'm inclined to go with the Fury, lets hope it'll still be in stock this time next week.
Well since the tread tittle is: 480 or Fury or 1060 ? and you want longevity on a Graphics card , also your gaming resolution is 1080p in my opinion get the cheapest Fury or RX 480 you can find and later on upgrade the cooling solution if you feel the need with a cheap Artic Cooling acelero or the likes.
I would jump on that Fury personally, easily take you into 1440p if you choose. The 480 list is a good deal as well. I am curious to see where the performance ends up with driver updates.
Get the best you can at the moment. I am brand indifferent and have pretty much alternated between the two for over a decade. The only reason being that upon upgrade the better deal was simply the other brand (nVidia 9800 GTX -> ATI Radeon 4870 -> nVidia 460 -> AMD 7870). My current HD 7870 has lasted me 3.5 years and will now be a gift to my nephews as I upgrade to a GTX 1060 (Zotac Amp! version). Does that mean I am suggesting it is better than the RX 480? Not really, and I'd be happy with either this time but the odd issues of availability are weighing in. I have a friend coming in from NY (I live in Brazil) in next days and went for it. One rule is valid though: get the best you can at the given date as it easily becomes the best financial decision in the long run giving you the best mileage.
No need to spend the extra money on a Fury if you are gaming at 1080p. Darkest is right in saying get a 4GB RX480 instead. I like my 1060 a lot for the performance per Watt and for outperforming the RX480 in the games I want play e.g. GTA V. What are you going to be playing?
I suppose that is the other option, wait another 6 months (can I put up with my 285 til then? As I am having to lower graphics settings on new games that are being released lol) and I guess by then, the market will see better cards around the £300 margin or less but that's the caveat of PC hardware, there is always something better coming just round the corner. Ideally, I'd pay upto £200 with £300 being the stretch.
Hi there Personally I would go with Fury without the questions although RX 480 from Sapphire looks like good buy too Regarding the GTX970,have owned from MSI which has failed in my girlfriend PC and we are replaced that card for Fury, hopefully I will be able to unlock to Fury X 4GB VRAM shouldn't be issue on Fury series at 1440p and beyond there Hope this helps Thanks,Jura
Not not long ago you ware finally able to flash a new bios, using higher clocks. I remember your thread. Isnt that 285/380 still capable for you to not get an upgrade itch? Maybe saving and waiting for Vega would be a best choice in the end.
285/380 are very lacklustre nowadays in modern games. My brother is running a 8320, 16gb ram and 7950 at 1150mhz and that rig couldn't even run WoW maxed at 1080p. Upgrade should definitely help, any of the mentioned gpus will make a big difference.
You brother is running a one of the most CPU intensive games out there with a CPU with an IPC of a potato. No wonder WoW runs so bad.
WoW, GTA V, Crysis 3, Diablo 3, you name it. WoW is far from cpu intensive compared to 99% of the MMOs out there
I understand but thats a CPU fault not a GPU. Op dosnt have that issue. His i5 will run anything no problem.
