I aiming for 1440p/60fps at max setting for most current games. Choices (and ASUS equivalent) - Gigabyte gtx 970 g1 Gaming - NZ$400 - Gigabyte gtx 980 4GB Windforce 3X OC - NZ$550 I was hoping on a 980ti but the card ended up selling for NZ$800, thats the cost of a brand new 1070 in NZ.uke2: Im without a PC atm because of the dead gpu, Im currently studying so need my own pc and im not quite comfortable spending $400-550 on a last gen gpu. However, if either of those cards will let me play the majority of current games at max/60fps @1080p/1440p, then my i can easily justify it. Or, i wait until prices of the 1xxx level out towards the end of the year (hopefully), but that means i go without a gpu as im not willing to spend money now just to spend an additional few hundred a few months from now and then be left with a 970/980 that wont sell for anything near what id pay for one now. That and i feel it would be smarter to wait on the proper upgrade once the new consoles are out in the next year or so Really im just interested in Arma 3 (i know nothings getting 60fps in that), Elite (i keep crawling back to it:bang and Star Citizen...and maybe, some gtav. I cant justify paying the current $800 - 1300 for the 1070 and 1080 for those games. Thoughts? ------------------------------------------------ Edit: Nvm, Grabbed the 970. and saved myself 150.
Thanks, yeah, im not after much at the mo, just enough to play what i currently have and to get my pc back up and running. That ti wouldve been nice, but im not paying 800 for one.
Yeah, with arma and elite ill be sticking with 1080p. My ref to 1440p was more for the likes of Stalker, Doom 3, Doom 2016 if i pick it up (with a bit of tweaking going by benches). That sort of mix. Thats why i went with 970 as the 980 just didnt warrant the extra $150 for on avg an extra 5 - 10 frames.
I have a very good G1 980 Gaming for sale (in my sig, 1531mhz no voltage messing, asic 75.8) and never see temp more than 63c, if you're interested. I'm in the USA though. PM me if you're interested. We might work something out.
You can do 60 FPS at 1440p with a 970. You didn't say maxed out, which is good. Turn down the typical culprits, anti aliasing, some shadow detail, SSAO, view distance. Usually in that order. I don't blame you for saving the extra $150 over the 980, the 980 was at a horrible price/performance ratio years ago. Though a 1060 probably would have been a better buy. Also, to the last 4 post, he said he got the 970 an hour ago in the OP.
I was looking at the 1060, but all stock is either out or whats left is marked up to just under 1070 prices (NZ$800). Theres the Asus Turbo 1060 for 500, but its not due back in stock till mid to late august going by the emails sent back forth between myself and various outlets. I just want to be able to play what ive got. Im not too concerned about up coming titles just yet. Though i do hope its not Elite Dangerous that was responsible for the death of my 580. I went to load the srv as i was getting attacked by some ai while my ship was grounded, the doors closed on the srv like tweezers, the srv then exploded and my pc rebooted but with lots of horizontal red lines everywhere. Thanks for the offer but the NZ exchange rate wouldnt be worth the time for either of us.
I'm in the same boat as you boobs and found this review with ARMA 3: I also am thinking of going to green side single card only because I need an option to 4K later so for me 1070 would be the min reference. I will wait for 490x and the next Ti to come out before making any decision. Saving literally all the pennies I can right now.
With those requirements... should have saved up for a 1070. At 1440p max settings the 970 will hover from 35 to 60 fps dependent on which game engine you throw at it.
