Not for gaming, not to justify the cost of that platform. Only if you did a lot of CPU intensive tasks such as video encoding and 3D rendering.
Normal I7 would be enough, 8threads. E.g. 4790k and oc that as much as you can. I personally would do this and sell your current i5. Broadwell 5775c would be ok too, although it kinda oc like crap. 4.4 4.5ghz if you're extremely lucky. Edit. Nvm about i7 5775c z87 doesnt officially support it.
IMHO, sell the i5, get a 4790k and be done if its just gaming. 8 threads really starting to be a good thread count for gaming. Honestly, strictly for gaming, I feel like I wasted my money going from a X5650@ 4.5ghz, 12GB 1600 X58 setup to my current X79 setup. Only thing that I got out of the switch was native Sata3 6GB ports for SSDs.
thats the thing . im just looking for gaming boosts i have no immidiate plans to make use of any of the motherboards added features like the new ssd slots and type c connectors .. its all blah blah blah to me ... unless i get some more compelling advice i guess ill stick to what i have as with the new 1080 it serves me very well
