Currently I am running @ 4.6ghz and 1.248V (custom loop).

Max temps gaming end up in the upper 60C/low70C in GTA5. Doing a prime loop for a few hours gets me to the upper 70's/lower 80s.

Would it be worth it to delid or are these temps reasonable for a 3570K?

    Thanks!

Ivy tends to get hot but thats not bad. Reasonable temps at that voltage/clocks. Did you tried going higher than 4.6ghz?

Go for it! Its whats being an enthusiast is all about ;)

When I delid my 3570K I knocked off about 20C! I used Liquid Pro on the die though.

Don't bother delidding if you dont have liquid ultra/pro on hand

What does sanding the heatspreader do exactly? Does that offer similar results or no? I wouldnt mind knocking off a few degrees off my 4790k but I wont lie I would be scared to mess this chip up, I would sand it tough.

Not much point in sanding really.

You would have to sand both the heatsink and the IHS to get any benefit.

CPU/heatsinks are concave or convex, sanding ensures they are flat which allows better contact.

Lapped my CPU ages ago, can't remember how much it helped, if at all, but was very shiny at the end lol

Lapping is mostly a waste, you'll shave off maybe 2-3c

I pushed a bit beyond that but it got much warmer. That is the lowest stable voltage I could get for 4.6. I do have some liquid ultra around.

I might as well give it a try and see how far it can be pushed before upgrading it someday.

I'll reply with my experience hah.

    Thanks all!

I finally got around to delidding it. The whole process took about 25 minutes from start to back in the loop.

After a 2 hour prime loop that was getting to the mid/high 80s previously.. I am now seeing a max of 59C after 2 hours. I'll work on seeing how much more I can push the chip tomorrow.

I'm up to 4.8Ghz @ 1.312V with the highest core temp of 72C after a few hours. Is 4.8Ghz going to make much (if any) difference in day to day gaming vs 4.6Ghz? I didn't notice any FPS change in most games I tested.

Thats a nice chip you have there. As for fps change you'll have to find a bottleneck in games. Many mmo's will show you the difference even with slight overclock.

Nice work mate! What Tim have you used on die? Liquid pro is awesome! You'll probably drop temps even further, perhaps another 5-10c!

I used Ultra on the die itself and MX4 between the block and IHS. Still running more tests.

Edit: had to bump it to 1.32V as there were some WHEAs appearing in certain games.

    What cooling you using mate?

Looking at my results from a few years ago I was hitting about 55c at 4.6GHz 1.34v

H220x + 360mm of rad. The loop is on min fan/pump rpms.

In game I haven't hit 60C yet. I am still getting WHEA, but just in Valley. On prime I haven't hit above 65C, but I am now closer to 1.36V. Not sure how far to push it to get rid of the WHEA or if I should just drop the clock 100Mhz.

@4.6Ghz I am entirely stable at 1.248V and haven't pushed above 49C in game.

I'm running a 3570k as well, definitely worth delidding these things. My chip sounds pretty similar to yours voltage wise. 4.8ghz doesn't seem worth it really as I needed to keep upping the V's to get it perfectly stable. 4.7ghz is a sweet spot at about 1.28v on mine.

Starting over from the stable 4.6 and seeing how low I can keep 4.7. I was able to stabilize Valley and GTA @ 4.8GHz, but that was tweeking stuff at 1.36ish V. I'll stick with 4.7 if I can keep it a bit below 1.3V.
