Is there any info if and when AMD gonna do Polaris presentation? Any realtime streams or media to follow? Twitch?
Ouch missed that, thank you. AMD twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/amd (Hopefully they'll stream presentation)
AMD seriously need better PR, at this stage nvidia unveiled 1070 and 1080 and AMD didn't say anything, they might undercut them but at this point very few care about AMD, as all eyes probably set on 1070.
Probably because Polaris 10 isn't basically meant to compete with those two, but with the GTX 1060, and releasing performance-numbers now would just put it in a bad light compared to nvidia. Doesn't mean it won't perform well in its price-range, but a GTX 1080/1070 killer it most probably isn't (might do well against the gtx 1070 in DX12/Vulcan).
AMD wont be completing in that product segment till Vega. Pointless to react to a product you aren't competing against.
Yup that's what I heard too. By that time the new Ti should out as well. Will be interesting to see how they fare against each other.
You can calculate baseline below which they will not drop in performance. In all honesty, changes to architecture are nothing like Maxwell cloned into Kepler with software gimmick announcements at same time to make them look improved. Only wild variable Polaris on 14nm has is clock it will tick on as base/turbo and possible OC.
Might only end up being about 10-20% with power usage dropped in half...Its not going to be like the 1080/1070 improvement but if the price is right it could still be a good buy.. Heavy tessellated games should be even more improved...No doubt some games wont be much improved. People using CF 290x/390x's might be interested in cooler running rigs, but your right dont expect a huge fps increase like nvidias new stuff. I predict it will swing game to game from stock 290-fury results. Would be a huge upgrade for me anyway lol
20% would mean that it is rather big improvement tho since it is against 380 not 390x and it would be actually stock Fury X level almost. So 390 and 390x replacement might end up 1070/1080 level performance.
Unless TMUs and SPs got bigger boost than I expect, it will deliver only around 10% higher performance than 290x in light games (games where you should have like 100+ fps). But those heavy games which broke legs of previous generations for whatever reason, those should see nice boost. So I see Polaris as something which will improve on minimum fps mainly. But maximum may see bigger than expected improvement too (clock, clock, clock, ...).
So 2 RX480s cost less than $500 for same maybe better perf. than a GTX 1080. So my guess is the RX480s are being targeted at 1080p res and not 4k, as they kept on about console users. http://www.roadtovr.com/amd-rx-480-gpu-price-specs-release-date-virtual-reality/
