it's nothing major really but, when i fire up a game it gets annoyingly loud. it didn't do this before. i just want to make sure its cause of a lack of fans. has this happened to other people here? also my case is a corsair 100r, i got it in the same way as this pic, with a water cooler for the cpu
How for how long were you problem free? The fact that it didn't happen before tells me it's not your case if this is a new problem. Unless it's simply your ambient room temp, it is summer now. The only way to know for sure is to find out what your temps and fan speed were before and what they are now. Obviously if it's getting hotter the fan will move more. If you are ramping up to the same fan speed as before the issue, but now it's louder, it might need a cleaning. Or, a fan is faulty. If your temps are fine, and the card is clean, and the fans are not faulty... you might consider a custom fan curve to keep the fan speed at a level you want.
a 970 should not be reaching 100C. Something is wrong here. What temps were you getting before this started happening?
Yeah, that's not normal. Test again, with no overclocks. Manually set the fan to 100%, report the temperature. Listen to this guy ^
1. Cooler not making full contact with gpu. 2. Need to repaste. 3. Stop overclocking. 4. No intake fans.
wait, I've just looked up his case, it seems it only comes with a 1x120mm rear exhaust fan? It does have space in the front for 2x120mm and on top for 1x140mm as well. OP, do you have any intake fans?
hey guys sorry, i was caught up in a personal matter. i had 2 fans before, then just added one i had lying around to see if it makes that sound. so far nothing so i think im good.
Man, the temperature reaching 100 is the issue, unless it's 100 Fahrenheit, I don't even know what that is in non-retarded systems of measurement If your gpu is hitting 100c I suspect it will not last very long. The gpu itself is unlikely to be damaged but the board will fry
im buying more fans as soon as i have money, im gonna have to buy from corsair cause my other fans dont really work on it due to the screws and the issue is that, i own a 144hz monitor. and when i fire up a game that uses it or i have v sync off, it makes the gpu fire up hard. was told its sorta normal
to add to the airflow suggestions, PNY and ambient temps are also very likely culprits. it's just not a very good cooler for the 970. It is reasonable that higher FPS=more heat, but a proper cooler needs to account for that. I had the same issue with the point of view gtx660 in the past. cheap brand that costs a measly sum lower than others, but it had a crappy cooler and the newer the games got, and the hotter the summer was, the closer it was to 85+C even at super loud modes. now I go for the best third party cooler editions only. now I have a card with a 1.5ghz clock that is silent up to 80% fan speed and never goes beyond 70C even when at 100% usage if I want it so. good to keep this in mind the next GPU upgrade cycle.
yea, i might not buy pny products anymore. i got this because it was under 300 when the 970 was new. im getting the 1070 next but going with EVGA
