It was going to be priced at that regardless. I really don't understand why they didn't just cut it loose to 500w like the 295x. It's essentially two nanos, not two Fury X's. It's a terrible card for gaming, especially since two Polaris/Pascal cards will probably out perform it, for less power, and for a much cheaper price. On the other hand it's really good if you need a bunch of compute power.
this card is for people that need firepro features while also doing some gaming. If you have no need for pro features there are better cards
