Since prices have gone down for DDR3, I am somehow tempted to acquire a 2x8GB set but I still am not sure my GA-P55-UD3 is capable of handling sticks. I've read some posts that state that they could easily though some have had problems such as: - Some mobos only sees 8 out of 16, this could also be from faulty RAM though. - Examples of X58's ( same period ) working well with 48GB using 8GB sticks ( x6 on Tri Channel ) - Examples of i7 860 with 2x8gb on P55 ( not my i5 though ), working - Examples of later GA-P55 mobos ( such as GA-P55A-UD3 with newer BIOS than mine - which is F9 ) or non Gigabyte models that work. + my present RAM is 2x4 bought in 2012 when I upgraded from my 2x2GB, of course, not on the mobo's support list, cuz newer, but still 4GB dimms, not 8. I would buy G.Skill but considering that our local stores seem to have an allergy towards G.Skill and only one sells them ( might not be in stock ) I see my options like this: - HyperX Savage 2x8GB - 1600Mhz CL9 or 1866 CL9 both same price, Fury still selling but I guess Savage are better at least with the timings. - G.Skill Ripjaws X 2x8GB 1600Mhz CL9 or 1866 CL10 for $2-3 less than HyperX. - G.Skill Sniper 2x8GB 1600Mhz CL9 or 1866 CL10 same as above
