Was just watching that video not long ago. Sandy is still keeping up, overclocked paired with nice ram but even so Skylake do offer some nice ipc improvement over last gen CPU's.
You'll have to spend much on a unlocked Skylake CPU, decent MB and some fast ddr4 ram. If you ask me, isnt worth the upgrade atm.

I'll keep mine little longer, its still a little beast at 4.8Ghz.

Yep, we're talking quite a bit of money too.
I looked back at what I paid for the parts back in early 2012 and I'd get crap for the same amount today.

I'll do a complete system overhaul on my 2600K build when I see at minimum a 50% IPC increase when comparing Sandy Bridge to a future Intel chip.

If you all are so confident SB is enough, then I guess my HW is more then enough - well I know it is @ 4.7GHZ I see how it stacks against current scenario, wipes the floor with anything 4/8HT atm.

Im planing to stick with this until a see a proper entry 8core cpu anyway, e.g something on LGA2011 CannonLake+ or from AMD Zen+ in 2 or 3yrs+ time :nerd:

Also a nice test, 2600k vs 6700k (GTX970). Is it the time to upgrade? No, not really :

Haha, nice vids, had a proper meditation earlier today if i should upgrade my cpu, while it can still hold it , i don't feel its enough for what i play(gw2) and i do get some nasty dips here and there.

If i had a 2600k that would be a different story, but it's not, and i decided it's time for me to upgrade, knowing myself, i wouldn't make it without upgrading till cannonlake/zen anyway ,so i guess the sooner the better. Decided to order a 6700k ,16gb of ddr4 and an asus ranger mobo. I should get a decent boost from what i have now.

Well I upgraded from a 2500k @ 4.4 Ghz to 5820k @ 4.4. In most games there isn't a big difference but games like Watch_Dogs, GTAV, Dying Light that utilize those cores I see 10 fps higher on average, with no dips in fps.

My 2500k was running 100% utilization(driving or moving fast) in those games while the 5820k goes around 30-70% useage.

6core 12threads on 5820k, ofc you'll see lower CPU usage and like you said, difference in average fps isnt that big but minimum tend to improve in CPU bound scenes.

Overclocking that 2500k further can reduce that as well. 4.4Ghz was fairly average for Sandy chip.

The only real justification for upgrading to Skylake from Sandy, is if you experience a hardware failure. Otherwise, it's not worth the cost for the majority of people.

Actually, upgrading has some benefits, a couple of months ago I was in the same decision.
Turns out that min FPS did suffer an improvement.

Overall the system does feel a tad snappier, so I guess it just depends on your needs, wallet or urge to upgrade.

Its not 50% plus performance by any means, but it does increase overall system performance.

I've not seen a single game max out my cpu. No where near need to upgrade it yet.

Onl benefit would be power usage and better threading if and when games finally catchup

Love those revisit videos. Besides WD2 (which likes multi-core CPU's) 2500k still performs very well. Real gains are shown with an overclock. Even an average Sandy chip can reach 4.5ghz+.

Still, time for an upgrade is getting close and im looking at you Ryzen. :p

I'm still using mine but I'm stuck with 2x2GB ram. I added 2 more sticks for 4x2GB. It was fine at first but after a few months I got a lot of crashes and BSODs. Turns out my mb didnt want 4 sticks anymore. I got no problems w/ 2 sticks.

I am kinda forced to upgrade to either Kaby or Zen cause I dont want to spend money on 2x4GB ddr3

Good to see the i5 are still going good at gaming for the most part. i7 looks great but in gaming i dont see paying the premium for 30% increase in fps. Plus i am stuck on lga1150 for a couple more years to get my money out of this new motherboard so yeah its nice to see the i5 going strong.
