I guess this is one of those annoyng questions. Im looking into buyng Fury X, I would like to ask, if anyone play witcher 3 with hairworks tesselation factor 16x? How does it perform at 1080p? Could I expect consistent 60 fps? Thank you for any answers whatsoever.
get a gtx 980 ti, if you are only looking into playing the witcher 3 mostly and/or many of the gameworks titles. Why limit tessellation when you still have the possibility to buy a hardware more capable in that regard.
With the latest patch the tessellation level in Witcher got dropped big time, i think it tops at 16x when you select High HairWorks in the menu. Because i get the same performance with or without limiting it from the driver at 16x also the hair details is identical. Only situation when the performance does go down a bit is when you fight multiple animals at the same time, 5+ wolfs. Which happens rarely. But like oGow89 said, if you wanna play games with nvidia features then go for a nvidia GPU. Usually AMD gpu's are crippled by nvidia gameworks due to vary reason.
Reason for that is the fact that since the 15.9 driver amd has been forcing it to x8 via the AMD optimized setting. So if you set the tessellation to use application settings in your crimson/catalyst, you will get the visuals back and low performance. It ain't the game patch. It is the amd driver, there was never any ''optimization'' only loss in quality of the hair strains. You don't believe take some pics from the front and see how low the quality settings and then switch in the crimson settings the tessellation to application settings and then go back to the game to see for yourself. Same thing was done for fallout 4 to ''optimize'' the performance when godrays are enabled.
So basically to go fury x way would be plainly stupid? Hairworks does really fragment the PC gaming it seems to me. Why does AMD perform so poorly in tesselation? EVGA 980 Ti hybrid then? (i'm building in very small case, that's one of the reasons I was considering fury X). Also you mentioned Fallout 4, does amd optimized tesselation levels bring down the quality of the game?
Well i don't know which case you are using or have in mind to use, but most micro iTX cases have place for a full card. If you are playing at 1080p stick for now with the gtx 970 you have. Buying the enthusiast level cards a year after release makes them less appealing from a price standpoint. In 4-6 months newer card will role out, with better price and performance value. But if you are keen to go for a card right now, the 980ti for now.
