For a new Haswell-E build I am trying to decide between a Samsung 950 M.2 512 GB or an Intel 750 PCIe 1.2 TB SSD. On my motherboard either SSD takes up eight lanes. There is only one M.2 slot on the motherboard and I would hate to waste it on a 512 GB drive. On the plus side for Intel, they have provision for power loss, and I have two older Intel SSD's with which I have been pleased. Not to mention the Intel is the size of storage device I want. I see no minus for Intel except that it is older technology. On the plus side for Samsung, it is newer technology with maybe higher endurance. However I am worried about lack of power loss protection with Samsung, and 512 GB is a waste (in my opinion) of a single M.2 slot. Warrantee for both drives is five years. The obvious point is that Samsung is much less expensive. My application is mostly playing games, but also Photoshop image editing -- with sometimes large files, about 50 MB, from a Nikon film scanner. I had hoped to wait until Samsung came out with a larger M.2 drive that I could evaluate, but that hasn't happened and I have all the other hardware for my new system sitting here unused and collecting dust. With regard to gaming performance, as I read Hilbert's reviews, Intel comes out on top, although Anandtech favored Samsung over Intel for the sequential read performance. What should I buy?
