    Hi,

I'm thinking to do a graphics card upgrade on my config (look under my name).

Should I go for the R9 380 4GB or for the R9 380X? Is there a big difference between the 2?

    Thanks!

Difference in quite a few reviews is only 10%. Overclocking r9 380 even slightly (100Mhz on the core) would close that gap. Both cards are good choice, just make sure you go with 4GB version.

The difference is in shader count the 380= 1792 (R9-285) and the 380X= 2048 (cut down R9-290) other than that there's no difference except a little quicker for the 380X

If you can afford the 380x, go for it.

Do you think that with the release of the 380X the price of the normal 380 will go down?

BTW, do you think this config can handle it? (My motherboard is a shi...)

    Thanks!!!

Your config can handle it, both of those cards. Nvidia said gtx960ti will come q1 2016 to compete with 380X. Until then i dont see any price drops.

If you cant afford 380X go with 380 4GB now, no need to wait.

I would say that if you can afford the 380x, go for the 380x. That 10% now looks small, but it might grow a bit, and even if it doesn't, it's the difference between 54 and 60fps. If patience will get you better hardware wait a bit.

There is also difference in clock between 380 and 380X. Simple 100Mhz on core would bring that 380 to 380X performance lvl.

Just like Tahiti 280 vs 280X difference at same clock is around 5%.

    Is there a big difference between: Sapphire Radeon R9 380X Nitro Dual-X OC 4GB GDDR5 and Gigabyte Radeon R9 380X Gaming G1 - WindForce 4GB GDDR5?

    Sapphire = 315€ ; Gigabyte = 285€

Standard clock for the 380X is apparently 970 MHz.

    The Gigabyte has:
    GPU: 980 MHz (+10 MHz)
    RAM: 5700 MHz

    Sapphire:
    GPU: 1040 MHz (+70 MHz)
    RAM: 6000 MHz (+300 MHz)

So spec wise alone, the Sapphire looks better. Sure, you can overclock the Gigabyte, but it makes you wonder why they had such a measly overclock to begin with. How come no memory overclock? I'm not anti-Gigabyte, but I have had a Windforce card from them before several years ago. I found the Windforce cooler to be quite flimsy in terms of perception. The Sapphire I believe is a more solid card both in looks and feel. Now in reality it probably doesn't mean much, but it does give the impression the Sapphire is the better quality card. I guess that makes sense seeing as it is 30 Euro more.

In saying that though, I never actually had a problem with the Gigabyte, and I've never owned a Sapphire.

U can get 290X (310€) or 970 (318€) + shipping 20€, thats nearly same price as that sapphire ... Both are lot better than 380x. 380x from germany is 243€ + shipment 20€.

Yeah it makes it difficult when people don't have which country or region they're from, since this can have a large impact on pricing and availability.

Yeah but I don't really want to pass the 300€ barrier (and btw, I prefer physical store because of warranties, and here where I live a GTX 970 costs 380€).

    It's hard to find a 290X...

I prefer Sapphire. This is my third Sapphire card in row, never had any problems.

Although if you dont want to spend more than 300€ then dont, gigabyte is also trusty. You cant go wrong with either of those.

My actual card as you can see is a sapphire too and I never had any problems. I prefer sapphire over gigabyte (I had bad experiences with gigabyte products in the past) but I think it wouldn't make a big difference in terms of performance (maybe I'm wrong).

The only thing that makes me think if I should buy it or no is that this card is basically the 280X/7970 (2012 card). Basically I will pay 300€ for a 2012 graphics card :|

380X is a bandwidth starving card. 384bit on 280X really shine. It might not be faster than 280X in some games but its not the same card from 2012, dont be confused.

    280X TahitiXT chip 3GB/384bit GCN1.0 with DX12 (feature level 11_1)
    380X TongaXT chip 4GB/256bit GCN1.2 with DX12 (feature level 12_0)

Basically you are saying that the 280X is better than the 380X right? It's hard to find the R9 2XX series on the market now (on physical stores ofc). So it's a hard choice, at first I was thinking on buying the 380 2GB, then I raised the price from 200€ to 260€ to buy the 380, and now that I saw a "380X" I raised it again to a max of 300€. The next cards in therms of price is the 970 , but I really don't like his price xD
