Hello gaming Gurus! A few items on my Steam wishlist are on sale and I'd like to get your opinion about the following: - The Cursed Forest - Kholat - Layers of Fear. So which of the above would you recommend based on your experience or thoughts? Or none of the above and something else instead? Thanks! PS: I already have Alien: Isolation, Outlast, Slender: The Arrival, Miasmata, Amnesia: TDD, Betrayer, The Evil Within and Vanishing of Ethan Carter from the similar genre. EDIT: and Dead Space, forgot about that one as it's on Origin, not Steam.
The Park seemed interesting but I gathered it's really short. I watched a gameplay video about Kholat and there seems to be a lot of traversing with the help of a map and a compass, seemed kinda cool to me. Was it the walking around that bored you or just the game in general?
Ive just got Soma.....and man it is great. Atmosphere up the wazzoo and plenty of "WTF was that!!!" moments. Freakyist game ive played since Outlast. Not often I'd recommend a game after only an hour of playtime but this is an exception.
Yeah SOMA is actually also on my wishlist but those three games I listed are the cheapest of the horror games I'm interested in. Maybe I should just cough up a bit more and get SOMA instead... watched a bit of playthrough videos and it did seem great! Rather pay 20 EUR for a good game than 8 EUR for a bad one... but let's see what others have to say.
This was as close to a horror game as I'm willing to get, thank you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlwFe-qNxqI&feature=youtu.be&t=24
+1 for SOMA. But out of the ones you listed, Layers of Fear is definitely the best. Its pretty short though.
Try Stairs. Its really messed up game. I was watching my friend play it, kinda interesting. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=394637433
layers of Fear! LoF is far better than those children's games like outlast or amnesia. Probably the closest we'll get to PT.
While I didn't find it scary, I do think Outlast is great. Amnesia? Horribly overrated.... and honestly, pretty damn boring. I even found PT actually boring. I was excited for what PT could've meant for the Silent Hill series. But, the actual product itself... didn't do much for me in terms of actual "gameplay". Layers of Fear I haven't played, it looks interesting. But, chances are I'll forget it's even on Steam and never actually buy it. Much like... uhh.... Among the Sleep. Always been interested in it, keep forgetting about it.
Agreed. Outlast was great though not as scary as the trailer shows it to be... However, gripping, entertaining and never got bored. Wicked ending too!
I feel sorry for your kids... Though if Outlast and Amnesia are, like you say, kids games in comparison to Layers of Fear, then I think I've made up my mind. Plus LoF is still in Early Access so more content should be available once it's finished. Thanks for all the input guys! Do give further ideas tho if anything comes up, always in the market for some good scares and thrills. Most likely after LoF I'll get SOMA anyway. Once I get Amnesia finished. Come to think of it I haven't finished any of my scary games yet... maybe I am, you know, scared...
Yeah, got LoF and played for about two hours so far, currently at chapter 5. Very strong atmosphere and great visuals not to mention an interesting setting. However I'm not finding LoF actually very scary, it's tense sure but not f-this-I'm-quitting-now scary. Tho that's not bad, a game needs to be more than just freakouts and dread. I'm fairly certain the "protagonist" has turned his wife and possibly daughter too into painting supplies... seems to be, like, a crazy person!
20 terrifying PC horror games to play with the lights off http://www.pcworld.com/article/2838...games-to-play-with-the-lights-off.html#slide1
Thanks for that, there were some good suggestions in there like Condemned, which I had forgotten about. A melee-combat horror game by makers of FEAR (Monolith), it can't be bad. Plus it's not the first time I've heard the mannequins will give you nightmares... Also on the list was a game I already have and want to like but struggle to, ie. Betrayer. Maybe it's just too different and kind of weird mostly due to the colour or lack thereof. You can adjust colour saturation though and restore colours, but that kinda defies the main point of the game and even then the colours aren't "natural".
Another older game is Penumbra-Black Plague......was pretty cool....nothing like getting chased by a weird naked guy with his tackle on show lol.
