Proposed Build (Budget around 55k INR) Intel 6th Gen (Skylake) i5 6400 @2.7Ghz Asus H170 Pro Gaming Motherboard (2x8) 16 GB Crucial DDR4 RAM Zebronics 450W PSU (Reusing) Nvidia GTX 750ti (Zotac, Gigabyte, MSI or Asus)? HP Compaq LE2200x 21.5" 1080P Monitor. (Reusing) Software Used - Photoshop 24x7, 3ds Max when photoshop is not in use. Que 1 - Will my new build is good enough for my works? Can you suggest better build if any? Que 2 - Will 3ds Max / VRay use GPU for Rendering? - I will be modeling Architectural Interiors and Exteriors. But NO animation or Rigging stuff. Que 3 - Is it good to invest in a DDR4 Motherboard at this point of time? Que 4 - If GPU is not much needed for my works can you propose a new build / GPU that will be best for my budget? Que 5 - Current build is any good for an update? I will be buying from my local dealer. You can visit Snapdeal, Flipkart or Amazon.in for Indian price. Current build (if needed) Intel Pentium Dual Core E5700 @3GHz Asus P5G41T M LX Motherboard (2+4) 6 GB DDR3 RAM Zebronics 450W PSU No dedicated GPU. Awaiting your expert opinions. Thank you.
I suggest a new PSU. You don't want the PSU to be stressed from the load of the new build and take it the components with it.
When looking at what you intent to use the pc for, I think you could save some money on the motherboard to invest elsewhere. Do you have an ssd? This is probably the best upgrade for a pc running just a hdd. A decent psu would also help the longevity of the system. If it were my money, i would probably opt for something like this, for just over 55k on amazon: i5 6600 Asus B150 plus d3 G.skill 2x8gb 1600 ddr3 Zotac Gtx 750 ti Corsair cx430m Sandisk 128 gb sata6 Alternatively, if it's just photoshop and general use, have you considered getting a broadwell cpu and skipping the graphics card altogether?
@erro. I like your build. But isn't it good to have an updated CPU and DDR4 RAM? Also, Photoshop and 3ds Max are CPU heavy and uses GPU for some process which I use more. So I opted for a 6th gen i5 since i7 is out of my budget. The main reason I wanted to buy a GPU is that it might be helpful for the software in some way and will be future proof since I am planning to use this for some 4 years. I currently don't have an SSD. But going to buy it soon. @thatguy91 Yes. I just got to know the importance of a good PSU. Will buy something good like @erro suggested. Thank you
Even that PSU is a pretty low end, ordinary one. They still serve a purpose, they're ideal as a unit for a computer that does light workload (spreadsheets, word processing etc). A higher wattage version would be better. If your total power use under full load is say, 390W, 430W isn't a good headroom. There could also be other brands that might be better value for money as well (even if they cost more). The 'ideal' power supply for heavy use, longevity, quality, warranty etc is the EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 Power Supply. It does cost more than the CX430M but I believe would be a great investment. I'm not a fan of 'B' chipset based motherboards either. They are specifically cut price motherboards that likely utilise cheaper components. Again, these serve a purpose of providing a cheap board for people likely just using light applications. This is of course, a generalisation, but a 'H' chipset motherboard would probably be more desirable.
But its not available in India. But I will go with a 500W PSU. Higher psu wattage will result in higher power consumption right? Yeah. I updated the the builds and came out with these builds. pcpartpicker.com/p/nDN2yc pcpartpicker.com/p/hvqWhM Any Suggestions?
For the power supply, I would either go: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0550v1 or http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-120g10650xr The extra $20 is well and truly worth it over the model you chose. The wattage of a power supply is the capacity of what it can provide, not how much power it uses for a given usage scenario. The higher wattage power supply can actually use less power if it has better efficiency.
