Just curious what you folks are doing this labor day weekend? I'm gonna eat a lot of barbecue, drink some brews, and relax... So... What y'all doing?
I am taking my 7 year old son to a swimming lesson then he has Shakespeare king lear to read homework then we need to go to library and collect a reading challenge certificate that's Saturday done. Church AM then sunday dinner and then hopefully not much
1.Yard work Saturday; cut back plants back away from the driveway (300ft long) - thankful the plants are just on the one side and lawn on the other(no blackberry vines this year). 2.clean and repair the rain gutters 3.Burn the pile on Sunday 4.Have fun seeing my ten year old son mop the floor with me in Halo(slayer) 5.Barbecue on Monday with just the wife and kids
Changing an alternator. And a camshaft synchronizer. Beer will definitely be involved. Going to get my moneys worth out of my labor, hehe. Other than that, I'll just be playing Mad Max and relaxing. Might go shooting on Sunday.
Going to the town with the missus Fixing a laptop Being bored We don't have labor day in the UK, what's it all about? lol
Work, work and work. Did I mention work? Might go outside if the weather isn't too miserable, otherwise UT fragging it is (with a few shots of Ouzo).
Me and the wife are moving some stuff around. My computer room is being turned into a nursery (I have my first child on the way  ), so we are getting rid of the spare bedroom furniture and making that the computer room/office. You don't realize how much **** you have till you need to move it.
Well Today I work 12-4pm (Eastern Time) and after that I am going to spend time with family for a bit after that I am going to play some D3. Sunday at 1pm Eastern time I have a Fantasy Football draft to do and then at 4-8pm I work again then after that the rest of the time is mine.
Here in the US we have a lot of things to be thankful for the earlier accomplishments of unions. 1. Five day work week 2. Holidays - like Labor Day 3. Noted days like Mother's Day 4. OSHA - as much as I hate OSHA inspections Labor Day is a National holiday to spend time with family and friends instead of work, work, work. Snippet about the holiday: http://www.dol.gov/laborday/history.htm
The UK has a 5 day working week (Unless you're a skivvy) Holidays (Not labour day though) Noted days like Mothers day Never heard of OSHA Nice idea though, there is likely an equivalent over here
About OSHA; even though it is Wiki, it is good enough: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupational_Safety_and_Health_Administration
You have a holiday for safe working conditions for men and women? Damn, I need to speak to Cameron lol
Not directly. It is because of the efforts from certain unions that we have Labor Day. OSHA is another result from union endeavors. You mentioned that you had not heard of OSHA before, so a link to what OSHA stands for and does was given.
Our Labour Day is on May 1st here in Brazil. When I read the title of the thread, I swear I thought it might be something like Valentine's Day; yours is in February, but ours is on June 12th. Well, I've got a 2½ year old daughter, so when we can, we travel to my brother's house in a city upstates which, by the way, is quite pleasant and she loves it! Next holiday is only in October (Children's Day) and I think I'll stay home - things are not so good here in Brazil, so money's being an issue for us at the moment!
I went down to houston for a friends birthday. Friday I was ear raped by EDM music for about 6 hours, saturday was just relaxing. sunday traveled back home. Fun trip.
