We are releasing a new Windows 10 Insider Preview building to the Fast ring today: Build 10532. As always, there are bug fixes and improvements in this build over 10525, but also some new features we are very excited to share with Insiders. Improved Context Menus We’ve heard feedback about the consistency of menus within Windows 10, so we’ve made some changes to improve these and give them a modern look at and feel. We are still working on it, but you’ll see some good changes with this build. We’re also further unifying the light and dark theming across the OS and are looking forward to you trying these latest changes and providing additional feedback. Sharing Windows Feedback The Windows Feedback app will now allow you to easily share your feedback with others. PC-Share-Feedback You have the option to share using any application that supports the Windows Share functionality or get a direct link copied to your clipboard for pasting anywhere you like. We think this will help Insiders more easily share specific feedback and suggestions with other Insiders on Twitter, Insider forum discussions, and directly with our engineers. Naturally we would like to hear your feedback on this new feature as you use it. And of course, since the Windows Feedback app is a Universal Windows Platform app, it means the next mobile flight will include the ability to share feedback as well. Here is a sneak peek of what that will look like: Mobile-Share-Feedback I know many of you are eagerly awaiting a new mobile build. We have found and fixed a few issues that would be a blocker for some Insiders in recent builds in our internal rings, so we haven’t had one we felt was ready to go out to you since 10512. We have some good candidates coming through with those fixes, so after we run them for a while and ensure they are ready for you we’ll get them out. Stay tuned to the Windows Blog or follow me on Twitter for an announcement when we have one. Also with this build, language packs are available for our supported languages in the Windows Insider program. Keep an eye out on the Insider Hub We have some upcoming feature announcements for both PC and mobile that Insiders will get to try out first. Stay tuned for more details soon. Known Issues Windows Hello face sign-on will not work on this build with some devices; the device can still be unlocked with other methods like pin, password, or fingerprint. As reported by Insiders on the build 10525, 64 bit Google Chrome will crash on launch. Google is aware of the issue. In the meantime their 64 bit Google Chrome Canary build or 32 bit Google Chrome will work on this build. http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/08/27/windows-10-insider-preview-build-10532-for-pc/
Quick Review of Windows 10 Build 10532 Same as the last build, stable & smooth with no issue so far but I do see it's a tiny bit faster on this build. I saw some new UI when you press right mouse on desktop or start menu. RAM Compressor is working better in this build then the last build. MS Edge & IE no longer use 50% CPU or higher when using the Internet. Only con is no DTS Connect (No 5.1ch Digital)
Now they've made the context menus ****ing huge like the one in Edge. Pics from MDL, http://i.imgur.com/YGPHngO.png http://i.imgur.com/Ntx2gsi.png WinX, http://scr.wfcdn.de/13497/Windows-10-Build-10532-1440708074-0-11.jpg
Great.. It's been stuck at 12% / 42% copying files with no HDD activity for over 10 minutes now... My rage is building. Edit: Finally starting going again.. That was intense Edit 2: Oh great.. It rebooted to scanning and repairing Drive C: now.. Years of flawless performance, passing random WD health scans, never a problem and suddenly HDD problems doing an OS update? GTFO Edit 3: Yep it's trashed. WD Data LifeGuard Fails a Quick SMART Test. Three times in a row. One of them in seconds. Edit 4: Did a full shutdown (holding down the shift key), rebooted and suddenly the Quick SMART tests are passing flawlessly again. I wonder if this is just Windows 10 corrupting the file system in general with its hybrid reboots and not really anything to do with the HDD Edit 5: Magically the updates "Copying Files" portion went flawlessly this time and at a very speedy pace like the previous update the second time around. Edit 6: Upgrade completed flawlessly. WD Data LifeGuard Quick SMART tests still passing with ease The timing of this is hilarious. Not even so much as a hint of a problem until this new build update. I'm sticking with my previous theory as to why the original stupidity happened. Failing HDDs have very obvious signs to tech nerds. Excessive HDD activity, crashes out of the blue, etc etc. None of which happened prior to this update. If the HDD was screwed it would have encountered the same issue the second time as it did the first time during the copying files phase. Quick SMART checks would have also.
So you've installed Windows 10 on mechanical hard drive? The update of Windows is fairly disk intensive, the issue is that you likely have either bad sectors on the hard drive (could be 'soft' bad sectors, which isn't physical damage to the drive), or weak sectors that causes slow downs (hence the pause). This will cause the symptoms you said, with the scan on reboot, and possible the SMART quick test. The SMART quick test does NOT test for bad sectors directly, it's why it's quick! Now, if those sectors have since been replaced with reallocated sectors, it could still 'pass' the test as long as the reallocated sector threshold hasn't been exceeded. I recommend a full surface scan just to be on the safe side.
Updated to this build on 3 systems, seems smooth, just have to reinstall some drivers and all is good, first thing that stood out to me is the hugeeee context menu, luckly on a 4K display isnt such a big deal but on my other systems using 1080p display it looks hilariously huge lol, hopefully they add an option to change the scaling later on. And memory management seems even better than previous preview build, overall snappier to use.
Context menu is bigger. It's fine for me, but mine isn't stupidly long with stuff that adds ten entries for the same program to it or anything . I guess they're trying it out, as its actually harder to accidentally select the wrong thing. This is apparent because it is quite clear and neat. Maybe the font is fractionally too to small, and the menu maybe fractionally to big (ever so slightly, maybe 5 percent bigger font and 5 percent smaller menu?).
Hmm. Strange issue. If I click the start menu and just start typing.. Say "Snip" to find the Snipping Tool. I can't click to launch it. Well, or anything in the search results. Works fine on my TouchSmart but the Desktop, nope. Can't launch a thing from Start Menu search results.
I wouldn't store important files on that drive, you have early signs of it dying, even though it passed that test. Could take a week or a year, but if there's one thing I've learned about HDD's over the years is that once S.M.A.R.T. starts complaining, the drive is dying. I'm sure that if you start thinking about it, probably some issues you had with Windows 10 weren't actually software issues at all...
Oh the Tech OCD seed was planted regarding the HDD. That'll be replaced very soon. The Start Menu search thing could easily be from disabling various things through PowerShell etc. I did a restore health etc and nodda though.
Same thing here. Start menu won't open either will search. I also had a BSOD after the final install and reboot. Something to do with video memory if I remember. (forgot to write it down). Google comes up with some solutions but none of them work. I always prefer a fresh install but I'm so tired of reinstalling everything. I'll dig for an answer some more but it's looking like restoring my Macrium image I made yesterday. *UPDATE* I tried all the fixes I could find on google. SFC, a powershell command, an ms troubleshooter. Nothing worked. So I downloaded the .ISO, extracted it to another drive and ran setup from that. Everything is working again and the apps I've tried so far are all working. So happy I don't have to reinstall everything again. Phew. Give it a try styckx.
Here's a funny one: Before the recent insider builds, I decided to try the new version of Norton as my AV (its free from my ISP anyway), as it was compatible with Win 10. Worked pretty well, up until this insider build. Windows uninstalled it due to some incompatibility. Not a huge deal. But here's the thing; from then on, unless I have the program installed (it will install, it just won't open at all nor run any of its processes), my BITS service just will not start. Trying to turn it on manually from the Services section fails, WU troubleshooting will recognize the issue but can't fix it, sfc and dism turn up clean. Thus I can't download anything from WU or the Store. So I have an AV I can't even use installed right now because without it it breaks my ability to update.
I highly recommend you try Comodo Internet Security. It's free and works with this insider build. I use it on all my computers. https://www.comodo.com/home/interne...5sk1=149f5215c68f0329e5cb756636892094443b5142
