    Hey all!

I decided to go back and play the original, for the hell of it.

Any idea why I would be getting REALLY crappy performance in this 8 year old game, on my rig?

    Thanks!

Define crappy performance. On what setting you play the game? You can't expect Crysis to run smooth in DSR 4K on GTX970. Crysis 1 is still very demanding game especially if you play with lots of AA or above 1080p resolutions.

Yeah, in game settings... AA, resolution, stuff like that would also be nice to know.

Everything set to high in game.
    2x AA.

Come on, this game is still that demanding, with two 970's?

Def something wrong, even my 680 can handle it easily at very high with 2x AA.

    Thank you.

It's just weird. I remember my old system with a 670 handling it better than my current system. lol

The intro screen (EA) is real jerky...and loads up in slow motion.

Try to disable Vsync and see what happens.

Holy hell! It's running like a champ now...and I have even cranked everything up to very high, and 8x AA!

I've NEVER seen vsync cause that big of a performance hit on such an old game.

    Why?!

Don't know man, I personally am experiencing vsync problems like yours in some games like GTA5 and Dying Light ever since I switched from Vista to Win 8.1. Also D3dOverrider used to fix these problems on Vista (if I had any) but with Win 8.1 it doesn't work.

A lot of in game v-sync options are like that.
If you want v-sync, it's better to use it through your graphics card control panel.

I have had to disable in game vsync and then set a fps limit @ 60 fps via Afterburner in a few old(ish) games to avoid similar issues. I haven't tried playing Crysis in a few years, but I'm curious to test it now on my main rig.

Crysis 1, at least the first half or so of the game has to still be one of the most enjoyable FPS ever for me.

The first five or so levels can be fun. But the game completely falls apart after that.

only thing lacking compared to today is the weapons positioning and models on screen, crysis 2 and 3 have evolved to better more realistic weapon models and positioning on screen.

Funny I find it exactly the other way around. To me the gun models in C2/3 behave and look like some kid toys :D

body movement along with the weapon model is more realistic in crysis 2, weapons being more colorful or having white color doesnt mean kids toys, weapons look small in crysis, hud bobbing and body movement is where the FPS evolved since crysis.

Well yeah Crysis 1 is a bit "wooden" yes but I still like it the most.

...You LIKE the fact that it takes up, in completely an unrealistic fashion, 1/5 of your screen?

    ....not sure if serious....

    I'll take this:
