I actually saw this coming. The Shield Tablet could have been great if it didn't go through so many rounds of cost cutting.
A co-worker of mine just filled out the recall form and it didn't mention anything about sending the old one back. Even though Nvidia is remotely disabling the defective units I'm surprised that they don't request the old ones back.
What happens in these cases is they send the replacement unit out with a jiffy bag in the same package to send the old one typically postage paid for so no expensive to the customer.
Beat you to it fella posted about this yesterday in hardware news section http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=5133715#post5133715 my brother's waiting for his replacement, apparently it can take up to 2 weeks.
Actually not in this case apparently. The app they have to use to initiate the process says it will deactivate the current tablet once the new one is activated. I don't think they're going to have us send them back, it makes no mention of that.
Actually this tablet is awesome to play some games, and really awesome for general use. Android gaming only fails a bit in the gaming controls section, Theres no perfect gamepad i can think of to carry along the tablet, not even the nvidia one, too bulky, and well mouse+keyboard combo its not really handy on the go. For playing at home is nice, but hell i have a pc or a console right? i want to play while traveling. I mostly read manga on the tablet and play on the ppsspp emu and point and click games tough :nerd: My tablet is working fine, but i filled out the recall form anyways and aparently i will get a new brand new shield tablet in 2-4 weeks (in europe!) My tablet its 1 year old already, and has falled once (no serious damage tough) im not even mad about this recall :grin2: Not to mention nvidia updated it with 5.1.1 recently, i wish i had this kind of costumer service on my previous android devices tough..
This may clear some things up. Here's the confirmation email I received from Nvidia regarding the recall. Dear NVIDIA Tablet Customer, Thank you for submitting a claim to replace your tablet. Your replacement will ship within the next 2-4 weeks. Please follow the included instructions to replace or dispose of your old tablet. Please make sure to back up your photos, video and data files, so that you may access them from your replacement tablet. As a reminder, when you set up your new tablet, your old tablet will be deactivated and no longer function. Please remove all accessories – cover, SIM card, SD card, etc. – before returning your old tablet. Thank you for your loyalty and for participating in this recall effort. Sincerely, NVIDIA
At last! Maybe this time they solve the problem with annoying almost 8hrs charging times (led turns green) while the tablet is off. Problem with the led or battery circuict, whatever. 2 times RMA, 3rd time they claimed it is not an issue :/
Seeing as overheating batteries is usually a case of chargers pushing out too many amps, wouldn't a charger replacement be good enough? I feel like recalling the entire tablet is unnecessary, an inconvenience to customers, and more damaging to their reputation. I personally wouldn't really care about having a slower charger.
