G.SKILLÂ are proud to announce two series of memory, designed for the 6th Gen Intel Core Processors and Z170 motherboards, Trident Z and Ripjaws V, including the incredible 4000MHz kit!!... G.SKILL Conquers 4000MHz Trident Z and Ripjaws V Series DDR4
Why are we still measuring memory in MHz? Isn't it about time we switch to GHz? Not only that, who's going to buy a 4000 kit and what is it going to cost...
Agreed.. The cost will most likely not be worth the marginal performance improvements that faster RAM gives you. I'm very interested to see the timings on these modules. The frequency seems to be a hype term nowadays since the timings are equally important. Frequency only tells half the story.
epeen aside, i think really it would only be workstation builders that got for ram as crazy as this. doesn't the faster RAM help with content creation and/or CAD work?
For single gpu setups yes, But with 1866 ram @ 2000 I see avg of 5 fps increase with my SLI setup. The bandwith is nice for running sli imho. Just feels smoother then my X58 setup did. And X58 was 6 core Xeon @ 4.5ghz vs quad core @ 4.6ghz on my X79. And it was only $5 a stick more then 1600 ram. And my previous build was 12GB 1600 on X58. Wanted to feel somewhat of an upgrade on ram besides capacity.
Huh? There's a number of reviews that show benefits with high speed RAM in CPU bound games like BF4 & SC2
I've heard from the Overclockers UK staff that the 4000MHz Z will hardly be available (only very few cherry picked chips will be able to attain the speed) and at a very high pricepoint at that. Now what to put in an Asus Z170 ROG board...Trident Z or Ripjaws V gunmetal grey (which I'd still like to see!)... Will await pics by others he he to see what looks good (if I go there at all). So 16GB (4 x 4GB) or 32GB (4 x 8GB) 3000MHz (think the mobo's are designed for 3400MHz max?) for gaming 5 years from now...? I'm not worried by timings as it's all about the frequency these days, however lower CAS plus high frequency is always a win in my book!
And this thread here for ARMA 3 where they test RAM vs CPU speed: 4770k @ 3.5 GHz, DDR3-1333, CL9: Altis benchmark: 39 FPS 4790k @ 3.5 GHz, DDR3-2400, CL9: Altis benchmark: 48 FPS 4790k @ 4.6 GHz, DDR3-2400, CL9: Altis benchmark: 59 FPS Above all else being equal. If Hilbert gets a set to test, I hope he can do some ram speed for these games to see if the minimum and average frames improve for cpu intensive games.
Yeah I'd like to see such tests as well! Some sites report it matters and others say it doesn't. Bit confusing.
Regurgitated fallacies like this is why you should never listen to half the people on the Internet. More than any other, the tech community is full of people who act like they know what they're talking about. Also, the world doesn't revolve around gaming. People have a need for high speed RAM such as video editors a la RAM rendering. Pushing for higher speeds lowers the cost of what would be considered high previously. Not to mention higher speeds most certainly improves gaming performance depending on the title.
