It would be nice for other vendors to start making custom blowers, but if that happens i wish they'll stay far away from gigabyte's design..far far away.
Totally agree.. This thing looks quite bad. But about this, why aren't there many custom cards with blower-type fans? Blowers do tend to be better cooling solutions in SLI/CFX setups, no?
This cooler really reminds me of the one Asus showed with its white 970s. I think even if it's ugly the temp in SLi will be better than a custom or a reference cooler.
you can't assume that any certain style of cooler is better for SLI. There are many factors that are involved in your temps with your cards, spacing, case airflow, and other installed hardware just to name a few.
Comparing with G1 (first is g1 second is this new one) clock speeds: 1178 / 1329 MHz vs 1101 / 1241 MHz Power requirement: 550W(one 6-pin and one 8-pin) vs 400W(with one 8-pin) Card size: L=312mm,W=129mm,H=43mm vs L=266mm,W=129mm,H=43mm(without bracket) so...I wonder first why they didn't provide same OC to this newer gpu(power is enough for 1178/1329 Mhz with one 8pin) and second if it will be better actually for SLI setup. Nevertheless only review (on SLI) will show the differences if any.
To me this kind of reminds me of one of those HIS IceQ Turbo coolers used for a HD 7850 but this one that Gigabyte designed looks much worse.
spot on I have had SLI set ups in the past using open custom coolers (rather than rear exhausting) - the cards ran just slightly higher temps than the same system with 1 card fitted - I have great air flow through the HAF-X so this was likely a major contributor
Anyone noticed that the pcb is much shorter then previous 970 cards out there? I'll stick to my gtx 970, windforce, TWINS.
I can tell you from having CFX 7850, CFX 7950 and gtx 670 sli, that blower types are better imho in closer situations. If you barely have 1 space above the 2nd card to the top card, blower types are the way to go. I have 1 spaced between my 670's and my sound card is there. And then a short and small GTX 650 for physx under my second 670. While blower type coolers are a bit louder, in most cases the work just fine. Its all on preference. I am a bit old school with liking the look of dual/triple gpus with blower type coolers.
