A brave mom she was. I hope the kid does not waste his life edition.cnn.com/2015/07/27/china/chinese-mother-killed-escalator/
I can't get the image out of my head of a mince meat type scenario. Poor lady. Amazing that she managed to push her child away rather than claw desperately at anything to get a grip.
What an awful way to go. I really feel sorry for that kid. It's bad enough knowing someone you love died like that, but the fact he'll be able to watch it in the future? What a world we live in.
It's China. This actually happens all the time there. Not that I'm saying anything bad about the country. They just have more escalators than anywhere else pretty much. Most of the deaths seem to be decaps from someone having their head over the side. Escalators are some scary stuff, man. Pretty sure escalators are way more lethal than sharks and snakes combined or something insane like that statistically speaking.
Lazynes kills. It always makes me laugh when for eg. On the airport people line up in a queue for escalators and there is me walking alone next to them on normal stairs. Sad that she lost life in such silly way.
You can't know whether it's laziness or not. There's a lot of places local to me that don't have normal stairs, they only have lifts or escalators. The woman very well might have had no choice, not to mention other factors you know nothing about. It's unbelievable, a woman is killed and your first thought is to deride her based on pure assumption?
Yep, just today I went to one of our largest city shopping places and it has only escalators. And guess what. One going down was broken (stopped), so we had to walk it down. Same goes for our city's largest shopping place, escalators only. But at least both use belt based escalators. Because walking stair based one is actually dangerous. (And apparently you can't take shopping cart on stairs escalator...)
Being disabled and having balance problems I'm not a fan of escalators (specifically the walking stair type). I try to avoid using them whenever possible and try to use regular stairs or a lift/elevator.
I have to say this is shocking. Those women workers could of helped her, one could of pulled the child to saftey whilst the other helped the women. To me this was easily avoidable. I have been on many many escalators and only once in my life have I gotten my lace stuck which was my fault for not tying them tight enough. This on the other hand should of been avoided, this could of been two deaths as both the women workers could of been killed if the floor gave way when they walked across it. They were lucky, the emergency stop button should of been pushed there and then. Which is located at both ends of any escalator.
Most malls in Dubai don't have regular stairs, speaking from personal experience. I use the escalator, but then again I probably run more in a week than the average person does in a month. Stop judging people on such remote detail...
