I wasn't able to enjoy Witcher 3 on my PC. It stuttered here and there, the frames go all over the place. It became the typical pc game where I spent more time tweaking it and worrying about performance than I did actually playing and enjoying the game. So I picked it up for PS4 with some store credit I had laying around. I have to say, I should have done this all along. Yes it's graphics aren't the superior version but they still look great. Gameplay is so much smoother, no more tweaking. Anyways, because I just got the game the 1.07 patch automatically downloaded and installed. I've read this patch screws up frame rates, my question is, where? I'm hoping it's later in the game so by the time I get to those points they'll hopefully have a new patch. I've noticed the cut scene frames are horrendous, but gameplay itself up to this point (still very early in the game, I'm about to fight the big bird monster outside of the town) has been very good as far as frame rates. Have the devs acknowledged the poor performance with the new patch?
Eurogamer has you covered on this point, http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-should-you-install-the-witcher-3-patch-107 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qhh3NQSkcU Really looks like the game could do with an optional resolution selector, being able to choose 900p on ps4 or 720p on x1 would make it pretty steady around 30fps i think I have no idea how it lowers performance though, wasn't it mostly just an alternate movement system and a storage patch?
To my understanding the ps4 version always ran at 20fps in the swamps areas and this patch promised improved performance. The Xbox One, I'm assuming because of its lower resolution/dynamic resolution ran this area slightly better until this patch, now it seems this area is locked in at 20fps on both systems. The outcry I suppose isn't that performance has gotten worse, it's that this was supposed to be a patch that improved all the places that were generally below 30 frames. Personally, the bit I've played, it runs very well. Even with lower frames, it plays much smoother than it does on my PC (maybe an AMD thing?). I suppose what I should do is wait for the ps5 and play the definitive edition since it seems like all these new consoles do is reintroduce old games with a slightly new coat of paint and higher resolution. :bang: EDIT: In all seriousness this just seems like a badly optimized game across the board. It doesn't help that developers make a game with the lowest denominator in mind, that being the xbox one and then go from there. The ps4 has a much more powerful gpu that should be able to handle this game at 30 frames/1080p. I suspect this will be the norm for this gen, the only games on ps4 that will run respectively while looking great will be exclusives.
Yep! That's why I have a ps4, exclusives pretty much. That or a game that is going to be identical to pc but comes out early (like Axiom Verge) And when I say exclusives, I have a total of two game son ps4 and haven't turned it on in months to play a game. Going to play journey again later though, free ps4 version.
wow bogging down to 20fps at times, even seemed to be locked at 20fps in the swamps. I have Xbone, my wife played witcher 3 on it, I haven't, instead I played it on pc. Sure am glad I did, looks and ran circles around this. I was really hoping the next gen consoles would be an improvement, got sick of playing games at 20fps on the 360 all the time. Guess my hopes were too high
I went into the PS4 settings and changed auto 1080p to 720p, it seemed smoother when i played last night. Need more time to test it out and see if it's worth it.
As far as i've seen that's not how the ps4 works, it's still rendering to 1080p and scaling down. Only game i'm aware of allowing to choose between 1080p and 720p is FF14
I wish they made Fraps at the PSN store so i could test. Update: Confirmed! 720p is better than running 1080p Just go to settings/sound and screen/video output settings/resolution/720p I found a spot in game running 1080p where it is choppy so i ran the camera slow in that spot many times and it still looked choppy over and over again. I switched to 720p and it was smooth! I saved that spot. I will try to record it and upload it. Try this out and see, roaming in the game menu has less lag also in 720p. Ooo'well screw it. I can't tell anymore as i got stuttering at 720p as well! Sony really should hold higher standards on frame rates. Or we should get a full refund as game is sorta unplayable at this state!
yes. it is running better at lower resolution. i tested it myself for this game and it works. started to play EVIL WITHIN too on ps4 and it is struggling with FPS too. such game much FPS.
I thought it was a little smoother. This games a performance mess The Phantom Pain looks just as good and is smooth as butter.

OK, after 6hrs of playing FPS seem better, and pretty smooth, i like the game now. When i fight nekkers, i can see there attacks coming now.
After playing this for about 75hrs i can say.... GFX GOOD ART AMAZING AI VERY BAD STORY VERY GOOD GAMEPLAY BELOW AVERAGE GAME ENGINE NOT THAT GOOD Very buggy game, things don't work like they should. What makes a good game engine is efficiency, how much power you put in and GFX performance you get out. Example FOX Engine looks great runs smooth as butter. Overall i wish i would have got BLOODBORNE Or GTA5 and Passed on this.
