So i noticed that for some reason my G1 980 runs at a funny clock speed in the Witcher 3, a clock speed that i had never seen this card running at before. If i run it with V-Sync on i get normal 1379.9 which is the cards usual clk speed. With V-Sync off it runs at 1330 for some strange reason. I know it's very dynamic but i've not seen any other P-state like this on any other games. Card usually runs at 1380 stock whether vsync is on or off. It's only a tiny 50hz but just never seen it down clock to that speed before and was wondering if anyone else had noticed this behavior.
Turn maximum performance on in the profile. With my cards, in single card mode the highest clock speed bin is 1430, and in SLI, it's 1392. Turning off V-sync will increase the power usage of the card and if you're temperature limited, it will probably start to downclock itself to preserve the temperature range.
This card is like a golden sample, one of the only G1's to run @ 1600/8000 on air at under 70C. At stock this baby don't even break a sweat and usually sits @ 60C while doing 1380mhz. So it's not the card but something in the new drivers or the game. All my other games run at 1380 aswell with or without vsync.
These are my clocks on the 352.86 drivers. Witcher 3 is the only game that pushes the card above 70c, everything else I never go over 68c. Vysnc off, 1 hour of Ultra gameplay, no hairworks.
This! Just for testing that theory, setting the fan to sth like 70% manually should enable the card to achieve a higher clock.
