I have a pair of 295x2's and they are running well right now with ambient temps in my basement of ~70F. The cards run less than 70C max during heavy gaming and I havent tried anything like Furmark because afterburner wont report the VRM temps of the cards so I'm scared. In the future I would like to replace the stock radiator fans to something more capable. Noise is absolutely not a concern because the computer is in a closet behind an insulated wall from my gaming station. I can turn all the fans up to high and I cant hear it at all. Closet has good venting so it never heats up in there. I just want to be prepared in case I need more cooling for an overclock on the cards or in case my limited gaming experience on this setup (less than 2 months) is not representative. Question is would the stock 295x2 PCB fan header support somthing like this? http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Delta-Electronics/AFB1212VHE-CF00/?qs=%2FW4LtXOBxKtJUqk8eJY1zQ%3D%3D&kpid=1131373731&gclid=CjwKEAjwvPepBRCoqo37teOD1XsSJAC7v6WQM8s80ciZfBhXaBvs52jr8OHgnu4gjAOCu5Xn4-z6NRoC1_Pw_wcB Its a .6A 4000RPM fan. I wonder if the fan header on the card will support the traditional 1A, that most motherboards do on their fan headers. Thanks! Setup: Asus X99-A, 5820K, 16GB DDR4, 250GB EVO 850, Quadfire 295x2's, 1600W EVGA G2, Fractal R5 Case.
You can alweys run them straight from psu/mb if the 295 dont get enought juice for it. Why not give them a try? Googling I found that AMD R9 290x stock fan is rated 12v/1.7A 20watts.
The Stock 290x is 1.7A!?? Holy crap. Well I don't think the stock 120mm fan on the rad for the 295x2 is that much. Kindof seems like it runs about as loud as a corsair SP120. I think those are rated at like .2A or something. Only problem with running on the MB or PSU is then I cant slave them to the GPU temp. Of course it doesn't really matter as the noise wont be a problem, just thought it would be nice not to have them at max all the time.
So I installed the trial version of AIDA64, and it sees my MB VRM's but still no listing for any VRM on the PCIE bus. Not a big deal, I just wont run furmark and all is well.
that doesnt make sense, i have them showing on my deathstalker ultimate screen. go to preferences, then desktop gadgets and scroll down the list you should see gpu vrm1 and gpu vrm2 they arent listed as statistic items, you have to do something with them (gadgets, LCD, or logging)
