So I decided to install this app on my laptop and my AV starts going crazy. I look at the log and notice this entry:

    Code:
    Filename: bi.exe

Threat name: SAPE.Somoto.20 This file as been deleted.
I didn't install any of the offers that were included. Just the main app. So can anyone fill me in on what's going on here?

I presume that it was deleted by your anti virus? To be honest I am not 100% sure, but I do know core temp includes some very unwanted software nowadays. SAPE.Somoto.20 could also have been included with Demon Tool too. Do you have that installed?

Man that sucks. I knew the installer was bundled with opt out-adware but after looking at the coretemp forums sounds like u got a browser hijacker....:3eyes:

For future reference don't use the main DOWNLOAD link, click on More Downloads and grab the standalone.....it's clean.

Did you get it from ALCPU or a 3rd party site?

I downloaded the 1.0 version from a 3rd party site. My firewall blocked a request as soon as I double clicked to install. Never a good sign.

Real Temp is what I am currently using.

Link for standalone which doesn't include adware/spyware.

Yeah i noticed this also as well ages ago probably over 2 years ago. Bitdefender flagged something when i used coretemp. Ive only used real-temp tbh and even then i just go by AIDAs temps as its good enough tbh.

I pointed this out a while back and was told I was wrong.... Panda Antivirus went nuts and wouldn't let me run it.

RealTemp is for Intel only, so it's not really better unless you're running Intel hardware.

I use HwInfo but also have CoreTemp. I only have the portable versions of both and have never had an AV alert with Avast, Comodo, or now BitDefender Free.

The portable version of CoreTemp doesn't have the malware packaged with it.

I was just pointing out that it was conditional based on CPU.

Just click on "More Downloads" on the Core Temp website. So many people forget that...

The problem is that the default download still installs something else although a user has opted out.

And if a user has to muck around forums to know which version is safer to use, it kinda ruins the good faith that user had towards the dev.
