source: https://steamdb.info/blog/source2-announcement/ I am really excited. Gotta learn more about Vulkan. Dota2 had already source2 related files in its development tools. But now its official, I am really looking forward what changes will Source 2 bring to Dota2 along with other Valve games and its MODs.
Valve wanted cross platform "DirectX" for a long time. I didn't look much into Vulkan, but it might be the key to accomplish it. More and more puzzles getting together to give HL3 a good / revolutionary debute. HL3 have to be something revolutionary, otherwise it will end up like another modern shooter (aka: Battlefield4, Cod:MW...)
Marketing-Bullet-Points: Layered architecture so validation and debug layers can be unloaded when not needed Wait, what? Of course it doesn't work, but look how fast it is!1!! pppffff....
As far as a product goes they will have to pull out a magic rabbit if they want to sell now. They will have lost nearly all brand recognition outside of the main PC market and those who had played the orange box. If they went ahead and released a half life 3 on stores they would have sequel fatigue and no common consumer would really know what it was or why they should buy it. I think they would need to do another combined game again. Or something on a slightly separate timeline, like shepherd, pick him up for ep 3.
I think you are incorrect. Hell, my 62 year old mother asks me every now and then if HL3 has been announced, shes waiting to play it. A huge percentage of the people I know, from young people to my age, to my parents age, know, and played, the half life franchise and will play HL3 when (if) it's released.
Do you consider common consumer as retard without memory? HL2 came 6 years after HL1 and I as tons of others had pre-order (and that was time when pre-orders were not common, when a lot of people were offline/or still @dial-up, and HL2 had no big marketing campaign coverage around).
You know,THAT question really bugs me now: Where the hell is our loong awaited Half Life 3? Gabe, do us a huge favour, open a huge account, release that game and laugh all you want on the way to the bank.Just deliver,as we think you will.
I'm wondering if they'll port their high selling Source games to Source 2. CSGO, TF2, L4D1/2, the staple Source games.
Dota 2 is already ported -- I'm sure CSGO will probably follow. I don't know about L4D 1/2 since 3 was essentially confirmed to be in development. That being said Dota 2 looks exactly the same aside from a few minor lighting differences and increases in performance. So if they are porting I wouldn't expect major advancements.
New game engine no actual games being developed by Valve themselves, at least nothing beyond conjecture and rumour.
