So I had some Amazon gift cards for my birthday so I went ahead and bought a 3770k. It was from a reputable dealer and came in a factory sealed box and is legit, I checked batch number on it Batch # 3307B095. I have a Gigabyte z68 board listed in my specs and I updated the bios to the latest for the board which is F9. So I get it today and plop it in put my cooler on and it fires up no problems.

Well I set my bios to default and it boots right up and I have to reactivate windows because of the hardware change. I check windows and it shows 3770k and I restart and go into the bios. I look at my frequency settings and it will only let me go to 39 multi. The bios reads it as a 3770k as well. I can change voltage and everything else but the multi will only go to 39.

If I change it to 39 or mess with it at all it will have a boot failure. Bios will say you had a boot failure related to overclocking and will reset the clocks. I don't know, maybe you all have an idea. I guess if I need to get a Z77 board ill have too. Any suggestions would help, thanks.

Yup, its a damn shady business though. They promised a bios that fixes it. 3 years later still nothing.

You can change it for Sandy 2600/2700k. It overclocks better, runs cooler and performance is more or less the same. You'll save 100$.

Yeah but I can't send it back to the guy. I've opened it and used it; he kept he's end of the bargain and sold me the product he promised. So I'll bite the bullet and get a new board.

Shame you're in the us, I would have taken that Z68 off of your hands. :(

Well thanks, I can always use it in another PC. It's not a premium board, but it got the job done overclocking on just auto voltage. Sandy Bridge are so easy to overclock if you don't want to worry about tweaking. Just set the multi and auto voltage and bam your overclocked.

Well, you find out soon that Ivy isnt so friendly like Sandy. It's hot and bad overclocker unless your lucky.

I highly recomend the Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe and my wifes P8Z77-I Deluxe

I have my cpu clocked to 4.9ghz now thats 24/7 stable. Even if you go with the pro etc.... it'll be a great board. also my CPU is far from a gem.
