Hello i have a question about performing my Asus Strix Gtx 980 with 4790K.Because i saw some youtube gameplay movies with Crysis 3 and i am a little worried now. So listen.
    With MSAA8x i have 35-40fps on Asus 980 Strix + 4790K.

    So how is this possible? With MSAA 8x GTX 970 + i5 3570k overclocked + getting 60 fps+.
    Here:

Is this movie with some tweak or what? I dont understand.
    Because,here:
Also another movie : GTX 980 getting 30-40 fps with MSAA 8x.

Probably disabled loads of stuff in NVCP for that game

    60fps with 8XMSAA on single 970 in Crysis 3?

I don't even get that on my two 970's with 4770k @ 4.5GHz at 1080p so I very much doubt you are.

8XMSAA is a performance killer in this game, believe me. Go for 4XMSAA and you performance will increase easily by around 20fps if not more.

Also if your going by performance on the first level on ship then your out of luck that is the most demanding level in the whole game and runs like crap on literally all rigs.

    OP didn't say he was getting 60fps on a 970, he said he's getting 35-40fps on Asus 980 Strix + 4790K

The videos are other people claiming to get 60fps with 8xMSAA on a single 970 - OP is asking how is this possible

I could try this and get back to you later this weekend though I very much doubt my card will handle 60fps.

Yea like I said, I can try and debunk this by running the game at the same settings since I have the same CPU and the same GPU as the guy in the video. I think my save is at the same location as yours too.

OP knows it is not possible to run Crysis 3 MSAA 8X 1920x1080 on single 680/780Ti/970/980 @ 60FPS.
His card is working normal but he just needs to know if anyone can reproduce what these guys are claiming in the videos.
I can say on my system with I could not run Crysis 3 MSAA 8x 1920x1080 @ 60FPS all the time.
    680SLI
    780Ti SLI
    970SLI
    980SLI

Now single 780Ti/970/980 can run Crysis 3 No AA/FXAA @ 60FPS almost all the time.

35 to 40fps is spot on with a 980 so you have nothing to worry about.:)

So I tried it out this morning, set everything to Very High, MSAAx8 and 1920x1080 and was at the very same checkpoint as you OP. I got 30-35 ish FPS and when I overclocked I got about 34-38 FPS.

That guy in the video must cheat, though I don't know how.

My rig is similar to yours.

Here's a video I made running Crysis 3 at the same settings.

Pro tip. In most demanding games you can forget about 60fps on a single 980 even with 4xMSAA, let alone 8xMSAA.

    @ OP

Your card is a0001x1 production model.

What this entails is on a basic level...a pre-production model, this is why you are experiencing problems the average consumer does not.

Send me your email addy and I'll buy it from you for a tenner.

    No problem,

By the way I found something that may interest you.

The FPS being shown on that GTX 970+3570K rig was definitely fake.

EVGA PrecisionX, the OSD that guy was using to show his FPS can give a false reading.

I found another video with someone using both EVGA PrecisionX as well as MSi Afterburner (the OSD I used) and the results were way different.

PrecisionX showed nearly double the real FPS.

    Here's that video...

I've tried it out myself, EVGA Precision X shows a fake FPS reading.

    MSi Afterburner (40 FPS)

    EVGA Precision X (81 FPS)

    FRAPS (40 FPS)

I have a last question, because this is bothering me.
Here is the sample video with 780 Windforce OC + 4770K stock performing with MSAA 8x.
I tested on my card the same location and i have only 4-5 fps more than his card. My card is Asus Strix 980 and I7 4790K.'
IS not too low difference? My card is only faster about 5 fps ?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqOt71sHkT8

When his card getting 30 fps my card getting 35 fps.
THE MOST STRANGE is that when i test other scene in game i have 8 fps more.
Thank you for any suggestion. Also i check GPU LOAD in game and its 99%.
Is this normal ? Or that difference between my Asus Strix 980 and 780 GTX WINDFORCE ( NOT TI ) is too small?

Copy and paste from another forum. You may have missed this post for ya.

I still think you card is running normal.Does it suck to have low FPS with a 980 yes but that it just the way it is.

Turn down setting not every game 1920 x 1080 can be maxed out.

You could also buy 2 x R9 290X cards for the price of one 980 GTX.

    780 @ 30 to 35 FPS on 980 difference is about 17% better than 780.
