I am really looking forward to putting this beast together. It has been almost 7 years since I built my existing computer, and I can't wait to see the beautiful graphics on all my favorite games. WHOO HOO! Thanks to those here who offered input for the help in my selection of parts. I greatly appreciate it.
Nice! It always feels good to buy a new PC and then get to build it. Your build looks a lot like mine, just better here and there. I know you probably aren't looking to change things since it has been ordered, but I'm thinking a $40 stretch to an R9 290 would have been the cherry on top. Then again, I don't see a monitor or gaming resolution listed, so if you are 1080p or lower the R9 280X won't let you down for a good while. All in all, I like it. Seems solid.
Thanks. Yea, I'll probably stick with 1080p for a long time. I am thinking of getting a 29"-32" 1080p TV to use as a monitor. Right now, I am on a 1080p 23" LG. So, that is what I will have for a while anyway. One thing I did notice is that I picked the wrong RAM in the list above. I bought the 2x8GB DDR3 2133, not 1600. I just picked the wrong thing in PCPARTPICKER. Updated now though.
Why switch down from 8GB 2133MHz to 1600MHz? You will loose bandwidth this way, should of stuck with the 2133MHz kit and just used the X.M.P settings in BIOS to set it up for you.
Only thing I realized just now is that the GPU has only 1xDVI. I don't know if my current monitor(s) have an HDMI port. So, I may have to buy a DVI Splitter, or HDMI-to-DVI cable.
Got it all together, took photos and will be uploading them at some point soon. Also, I decided to add a 2TB Seagate Hybrid drive to my stack as a secondary storage device. Have read mixed reviews about them, but because this is not my Operating Drive, I'll be able to test it easier.
Well, hit the GO button and everything powered on, but monitor remained blank. MB reported bad RAM. Tried each stick one at a time, one is bad. So, RMA with Newegg. Sucks. I hope the RMA process is quick and they send me the new one before they get the old one back.
They won't. They'll wait until they receive the old one. Then they'll "test" the old one....and then decide if it's being shipped back to you or replaced. The process really sucks. Can take several weeks in some cases.
Here are some pics. I finally took some time to size them down. I have a bit of cable management to take care of on the low side. Waiting for my Hybrid drive to show up before I take care of that.
Question.... If you don't intend to use the Hybrid drive, as the OS drive, why buy the hybrid drive at all? Kind of a waste of money. A regular, 7200rpm harddrive would have been faster and cheaper.
I may have mispoke a little bit. It will not be the operating drive, but I will be using it to load games and other software. So, I would like those things to be faster loading up if possible.
They were latex, anti-static as well as to keep my sweaty fingers from leaving nasty fingerprints and oil from my hands on things.
