I dont buy this news.. He could have done a much better job.

Pulled some random high price and name it TitanX (or what ever it is called).. Really? :D

btw, There won't be any Titan this time around, if Titans were famous for Double Precision, then Maxwell GM200 isn't that chip. Only Kepler GK110 will have it, still. Until Pascal.

When they skipped DP it gives GM200 more FP32 power, also lower TDP.

    Idk if it's 600mm2+ I'd say that's accurate.

    For a Geforce variant, right..

There is no DP by Maxwell GM200, dunno why would they name it Titan then.. Maybe just to make this price rumor more "real", it is Titan after all.

I'm still not convinced GM200 will be low on DP. Because,

Why fix, if it works [ Gaming GPU = Pro ]
GM204 already improves on GPGPU tremendously, so GM200 should be awesome.
SP:DP = 1/3 or 1/4 should not be a big overhead, so again why change if it has worked in past.

Perhaps in anticipation of AMD's HBM or node advantage.
If that happens dedicated Pro revision (similarly to GK210) should be next in pipeline.
I cant see them battling out with GK110/210 for next 2 years.

Because nvidia (Mr.Lin from marketing?) said so? Imo that big enough confirmation. Pascal will have DP again.

All that math you did has nothing to do with DP, yes they improved FP32 but its still not real DP with FP64 like GK110 Titan/Tesla cards.

Also if they implemented DP in GM200 it would consume more power and high FP32 count + extra FP64 would kill it @ 20-28nm..

    Like it killed GK110... NOT
which nearly doubles GK104 cc count, compared to only +50% GM200 over GM204, and lets not forget better thermals/TDP

    WTF

What ever its nm will be either 20 or 28nm, that's the WDF there.. If its 28nm like current leaks said, then I stand corrected. :nerd:

Yes but GK110 isn't 50%+ faster then GM200 now is it, add FP64 and it would have very high TDP for sure.

Go ask Mr.Lin why he said that "at a press conference in Tokyo, Japan" 30.12.2014, not me. :p
*hint click on that kitguru link*

And Titan is a mini Tesla card, so why would GM200 carry the same Titan name if it doesn't use FP64 - the only really special thing about GK110 Titans.

nVIDIA won't have to drop the 980 price in that case. It's probably true. :wanker::wanker::wanker:

Some idiots will thinking they are getting a gaming grade card when really the card will have amazing double precision but not so great single precision and basically be the same for gaming as the current high end cards.

I have a friend with two TITANS and he gets worse scores than me with 2 970's in a lot of bench marks.

Nvidia will sell at this price so they can then once again artificially inflate prices of their lower end chips and make big money. Exactly the same as what they did with the first TITAN and then they released the 780 and Ti and charged ridiculous amounts for them only because they marketed a GPU (ie the TITAN) as a gaming grade GPU when in reality it was more of workstation GPU.

But it still had more gaming performance than a 780 at the time the Titan was released. It might be the better package for workstation tasks, but it still packs a punch in sp too. As a gamer, you'd get a really pricey card with dp performance on top, not that anybody needed that.

They release it at the highest price they can, and I believe nobody has a doubt about that.

if its aimed at gamers the problem is the game developers are making games for consoles running on hd 7870 why buy it if theres no decent games to play on it , only reason would be benchmarking or just to have the best fastest card

To play with more than 30-40fps, to have better iq than on consoles, to run higher resolutions as 720p/1080i/1080p, run multiple monitors, run games in 3D, record your gaming or stream it... Why are you running 970SLI and not a 7870, that's basically the same situation.

The right question would be, why should one buy the Gm200 and not 970SLI, for instance ;)

Mind you, I bought the 580 Lightning XE with extra vram back then too because it was the fastest single gpu card at that time (iirc... :bugeye:). And with the Titan it always was about having the best fastest card, no use denying that :D

**** the Titan X. Wait for the GTX980Ti instead, if history repeats it will perform the same as a Titan X on a single monitor setup at a 3rd of the price. Titans only shine when used for a triple monitor rigs.
