    Hi all,

So I'm ditching the R9 295x2 in favour of the 980. There's so many different cards on the market, which one is the one to go for?

I was considering the G1 gaming by Gigabyte,. my only issue is the blue Windforce logo - my PC build is Black/Red... But can something be done to cover it?

The other option which suits the colour scheme is the Strix cards...

But of course if there are better options please let me know!

    Thanks!

Yes, that is the same card. And I'd take these over the G1 because they match your build, and over the Strix because the cooler is a bit better.

hmm fair enough. I should also ask as I'm starting to get cold feet. Is it worth ditching the 295's for 980's?

Everything I've tried to play recently, has been performing really, really badly...

You Have plenty of gpu power with just 1 of your current cards. My advice is to keep one and sell the other and wait for new amd, nvidia cards. 2 way xfire should fare better than 4 way multi gpu. I had 2 295 nvidia cards in this rig and I will never go more than 2 way again.

Absolutely not. I'd check out why it's performing badly. It shouldn't be at all.

edit- just noticed you have quadfire, thats your problem

sell one of the cards as TK recommended

Does this not work out the same if I disable crossfire then? Or is literally having the other card plugged bringing down performance?

    Thanks

From almost every card release AMD have never gotten Quadfire to work at acceptable levels. No idea if this will change in the future. Combined with slow releases of multi-card optimized drivers for titles, it turns owning it into a depressing experience. It's not great with nVIDIA either.

Taking out the card will bring your PCI-E Lane one into 16x PCI 3.0 instead of 8x. Performance should be similar.

Don't worry about it m8. I didn't see you were using two. Definitely asking for trouble.

If I can ask though with Crossfire disabled. What's card running in?

    1x 290x or 1x 295x2?

Cos if i'm currently getting the same performance as a 290x that's still pretty disappointing...

I love my MSI Gaming 4G. 1317mhz boost clock out of the box and it's quiet. Got it stable at 1500mhz/8000mhz and could probably push it higher if I had a case with better airflow.

1 295X2. Pretty sure those are hardware linked and you can't disable the crossfire on those.
