    Hi,
I'm working with a GPU based render sotware called Octane since one year on a dual Titan system with a 1000W BeQuiet PSU without any problems.
Last week I got my new workstation and yesterday the PSU already died. At least I think that's what happened.

    Here are some specs:
    PSU: Corsair AX1500i, Mainboard: MSI X99S Power AC, i7-5930K, 32 GB RAM, 2 x GTX Titan, 1 x GTX Titan Z, Case: Corsair 750D

I was doing some random tests and suddenly the system said goodbye with a big bang and the smell of burned plastic.
Temps for the GPU's were ok (80 on the Titan's & 82 on the Z).
I checked the cards after the crash, everything is fine.

Is the Corsair 1500W PSU not enough? It should be enough, right?

What else could have caused this? Maybe power extension cords are bad for this kind of system?

Wait so was it on the 1500W PSU or the 750D?

It was the Corsair 1500W PSU.
The Obsidian 750D ist the case from Corsair.

Sorry for the confusion. I've made the specs in the first post more clearly now...

You're using extension cords? Anyhow, a 1500 watt PSU is more than adequate unless you're using some huge power draw items like TEC coolers. However, you should be using a dedicated 30 amp outlet.

Yes, I'm using two extension cords.
    Not good?

Besides one SSD and three HDD's there's nothing more...

Two, as in two plugged in to make a longer one? What is the amp rating of the extension cords?

Yes, two together to make a longer one.

Sorry, I can't tell. I'm not in the office right now. They're the basic cables that you can get here at a electrical appliances store.

So this could be the problem?

u think the extension cord overheated?

btw, what is the voltage and amperage over there in europe?

Hard to say. But if they are those thin ones that resemble the cord on a lamp, then yeah, that could cause an issue.

You need 14AWG(gauge) wire or less for that system. If its like some 18/16awg wire, you would be drawing way more amperage than it can take and that causes all sorts of problems

Check your dust filter. Is it clogged? Is your PSU getting enough air? The exact same thing happened to me. I was on the PC playing a game and heard a loud bang. Turned out the air filter was clogged and the PSU overheated and just blew up. It's also possible the fan didn't turn on through the Corsair Link software. Corsair Link determines when the PSU fan turns on,or IF the fan runs at all. One thing for sure,1500 watts is enough power to run your set up.

The PC was two days old, so I guess dust can't be the problem.
There's also a fan for the PSU in the case.

I've read in a review that the PSU-fans start at 600W power draw.
I was rendering with all cards active when the PSU quit, so I doubt that it was less then 600W. Is there a way to disable this setting?

    :)Hi RobSteady

I Have been a certified electrician For 40 Years and I'll try to help ya out here
I went to 2 different sites to calculate what you need and you need at Less 1600 at 100 + Amps on single rail That's what the sites are saying..
    You need like
Agent-A01 said at less 14 ga wire or heavier I run an older platform then you are so mine use's more power Witch I have pulled 12 gag wire to my rig
I have a supernova 1300 G2 running just the M/B, Mem, processor, and two GTX 980' REF Cards then I have a 750 watt running all the Fan's SSD's,HD's,
Lights, DVD. Blu-ray player's And the Water cooling System!! So you see it can be confusing.. Just get a Volt/amp meter and double check everything.. BE SAFE REGARDS Moparbjt

I use 4 Titans + 3930k on a 1500 Watt EVGA PSU when overclocked and running 4K the PSU is just not up to the job even though it can manage peaks of 1650 watts. I will be doing a rebuild in the next few months to fit two PSUs to get over this.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
I'm a little bit confused...so 1500W might not be enough?

GTX Titan has a TDP of 250W
GTX Titan Z has a TDP of 375W
So there should be around 600W left for the rest of the system :program:

I have not overclocked anything. Can peaks be that high?

    I will get a volt/meter tomorrow...

That 1500 should be more then enough lol, i think u just had bad luck with that psu, if u really want to make sure measure it, but i doubt that that 1500 watt is not enough.

Must be a dying psu, or something like that.

Yes, a 1500 watt should be fine. However, as I said earlier, you should not be using those type extension cords. If you must use one, get a 10 or 12 gauge in the length you need.

also is your cpu not going to hold back them 3 cards ?

What GPU's are you using that pull over 1100 watts from the PSU?
