Hi I am CM Mackem on Steam, and yesterday my Steam account was hacked by clicking on a "WTF???" and a link(do not click on link) message from a very good Steam friend(Who had also been hacked). It does not take over your account but rather empties out your inventory. Luckily I installed Malwarebytes in time and nothing was removed. Once your account has been infiltrated, it also sends the WTF??? message + link to all your friends on Steam. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. My account is back to normal. Please be careful, it bypasses Steam Guard!
Yeah you click a link which looks like an imgur or similar link and it drive-by downloads a file which creates a trade request with the hacker, and you lose your stuff. Be careful guys.
Dont have anything in my inventory, sold it all Got £7 from all those silly cards! Thanks for heads up anyway! I think ive got you on Steam but havent received anything.
Darren took me off his friends list, obviously thought I was the one trying to scam him. sent him a pm
I only removed you temporarily as a precaution. I was hoping that you would contact me on here when everything had been sorted and at least you actually took the time to warn people by changing your Steam name and so on. For that I am very grateful as I was not aware of this scam. Anyway, I am very glad that you still have your account. I hope the culprit of this hack has a really, really miserable Christmas!!!
A few of my Steam mates have said that they had got many of these messages from their own Steam mates like me. I was just stupid enough to click on it. Frikken ESET!

What a complete a-hole. I hope Valve IP ban him and he loses his entire Steam library. Dirty, thieving scum. Sorry, I know it's the festive season and all that but people like make me sick to the stomach.
GAHHH almost forgot, thank you CPC RedDawn for the "free" Malewarebytes key. ....And wanted nothing for it
That dude has 2,600+ items in his Dota2 inventory and many of them are duplicates of high dollar items. I'm surprised Valve doesn't have some way of checking shady accounts like this just based on what's in their inventory.
Just a heads up, this afternoon I've got A LOT of friend invitations from low level users with private profiles. Looks like scammers to me, the last 3 of them tried to add me almost at the same time: I don't recall playing online with none of them.
I don't accept friend requests unless I know that person IRL. People usually add me after I've had a good game (CS:GO) or played with a Pro or whatever who happened to be streaming. I'm the one usually sending friend requests if I find someone worthy to be in my friends list.
