Hi, Currently i have 780's 2 way sli (GB Windforce) and i was thinking maybe to move on to single 980 (GB Soc). Playin at 1440P. Single 980 against SLI 780's worth it? or should i wait for now? (have the sli since last year)
Performance wise it would be a huge downgrade. The only things talking for doing it, is if youre are an enviromental freak, that wants to use less power, or if the games you play doesnt support sli.
Not worth it at all. The 780s should keep you on the curve a bit longer. Maybe a 980Ti if they ever build one.
lol nope. 2x 780GTX is stronger. Here 2x 780GTX SLI vs 2x 980GTX SLI http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/54/geforce-gtx-980-sli-vs-gtx-780-sli-at-2560x1440/index.html 980GTX SLI is ~ 20% faster, so 1x 980 will obviously be slower then 2x 780..
ok Ok The fruit cake is back!! Hay I have feelings too. And I'll have you know I have excellent Spring water.. I do understand where your coming from, but I'll leave you with these 3 scores to look at. and I'll say no more till I play some games like watch dogs and advance warfare I'll get some screen shots for you all http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8801935 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8997542 http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8997490 ( You all have a nice Holiday )
Completely false. Stop spreading false information/trolling. If you legitimately experienced those results, you did something wrong. I promise you.
You just backed what everyone said and put a squash to your claim? you have about a 30% higher gpu score with your 780's it looks to me. I really do not think its fracking it may have been him "peaking" on a spider bite, that happened to me one time I was feeling a sroom buzz after I got bit So to us who are not on arachnoid induced ecstasy thrill ride gtx 780's have the power over one 980
This is my take on it as I've just done exactly this, due to temps mainly, and a faulty 780. Its really an in-between card though for me until that dual GPU single Maxwell card appears. Firstly at 1440p its not a HUGE downgrade as mentioned, basically if your happy with 60fps at max settings (minus some AA possibly) and sometimes good amount more than 60fps depending on the game, then its all good. A g-sync monitor makes the drop in fps much less of an issue also, especially drops to minimum fps. Secondly, the reasons I did it was because a card died and I had high temps, meaning LOTS of noise (and extra dust) due to extra fans blasting at full. I actually had my top GPU throttling which made game play more choppy. As a bonus I also got rid of micro-stutter, incompatibility and poor scaling/sometimes poor performance. All in all, I wouldn't do it lol. Unless you have a card die and/or have bad noise/heat issues/dust issues then its a very solid option, especially if you have a g-sync monitor (like myself). AFAIK Maxwell dual gpu single cards and top end Maxwell single are on the way first half of next year (probably early), so if you can hold off then do so.
