http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/better-business/63487424/the-warehouse-to-pull-r18-games-dvds.html I find the second paragraph to be contradictory of the whole point of rating labels. The problem we have in this country (NZ) is that we have brick and mortar retailers complaining about internet shopping harming their income and demanding that everything bought over the internet be taxed extra, yet go and do things like this.
That was the whole point of classification, within a certain age group restrictions would be lifting regarding visual content and features.
lol one of the best selling games of all time is the reason ? I dont think the guy is fit for the job tbh
It seems that the issue here is that parents seem to think that video games are just another toy designed for children and children only. Though whether he said it or not, this comes to mind:
Porn is fine, games are fine, ALMOST everything is fine. Just remember that it's not reality Yes there are nutters that go on a killing spree etc, but that doesn't mean every gamer will snap, or that sexually frustrated men will become rapists... These ratings are an indication that people bellow X shouldn't play it because it might be harmful. Not eighteen? No GTA. No need to throw it out. If you want to "protect" your kid you should forbid internet access too. I listen to Death Metal, Hardcore, drink, smoke, watch porn, and like to kill people in video games. I have a job and haven't killed anybody so far
What's the problem here? Man has principles, get's panned for it. If they don't want to sell something, it's their choice, go shop somewhere else and deal with it.
Parents and store employees are to blame. A 15 year old could easily walk in to almost any store and buy an R rated movie or M rated game. Yet send that same 15 year old to a porn store to buy a movie or sex toy and they would be denied.
Bullsh*t, it's Christmas and he does something that is news worthy enough to get his store group in the headlines while striking a cord for the morally upright. Translate he didn't want to put his staff in a position where they had to do their job, i.e not sell rated products to under agers. Instead he has now put them in the position where they have to explain to customers why they don't sell the game at all.
I dont get why even after they sold the PS3/Xbox 360 versions that they're kicking up a stink now. Theres a lot more violence to be found in the evil within.
How about Rockstar's Manhunt? When that was out it drove the media insane resulting in many countries actually banning the game. Several years after, Manhunt 2 was even more violent resulting in a world wide ban, reason for extreme violence and unable to rate the game. Rockstar was in and out court for a year or so due to the nature of the game and everyone wanting it completely banned. In the end, the game was only available to buy and download online. There was no other way to get hold of the game and it was unrated and not allowed to be sold in shops or on the internet...
