Hello, how are you? I am currently testing Windows Tech Preview (Win10) but I've found that when I install the AMD Driver, the system starts to hung. Simple things, such as alt+tab or even open a new window, will freeze the mouse for a second and then resume (micro lags). I have already tried the following drivers: 14.9.2, 14.9.1, 14.9, 14.8, 14.4 and 14.x RC1 and all of them have the same behavior. Every time I try a new driver, I restart onto safe mode and use DDU to uninstall. I also tried to rename the file in system32 folder related to mantle, but nothing happened. My GPU is an HD8670M @ 1gb w/ Intel HD Graphics 4400 (which runs just fine when only this card is installed). Do you have any ideas? Best Regards, Rafael Santos
So far I think the OpenCL 2.0 driver in the sticky section is the most smooth. I recently installed the 14.9.2 BETA but like you I found there are fps drops when transitioning windows I didn't notice this on the RC1.
I think there is already a Win 10 drivers thread somewhere, can't find it atm EDIT - My bad, it's for nVidia
@sideeffect, I have tried the RC1 + disabling the animations..no change =( do u have any clue why this frame drop? @Extraordinary =( and if reported to AMD, they will not even listen cause it is a preview version... Anyway, if you find something, let me know! Regards EDIT: @sideeffect, I am running again the 14.x RC1 but it lags the same. Are you sure yours does not have such problem with this driver? Have you done anything different, a setting or a file change?
I am also using Win 10 TP 9860. I have used the Open CL, 14.9.2 BETA and the last WHQL and not had any issues with single gpu or crossfired. Everything is smooth smooth smooth for me. Not that it helps you. Currently using 14.9.2 beta drivers. Also my system is OC'ed. OP just noticed your uninstall process. I believe I might do it a bit different then you. I uninstall AMD drivers though control panel in a regular boot. ( Note I do not install USB Filter Driver or Audio or Raptr) I then boot into safe mode run the latest DDU ( which was just released a few days ago) I do not allow the Win10 TP to install drivers automatically. I also select the delete all AMD/Nvidia Folder and the clean and do not reboot may cause black screen) I then boot to disable driver signing and install AMD driver custom and remove the items I mentioned. Reboot normally one last time after install. One thing to note since early in windows 8 through now I always run testsinging on mode. Elevated cmd prompt Bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON Right now though I am playing with fast boot which disables testsigning but no issues this morning.
Well the RC1 was what I installed first and I didn't notice a problem with stutters. After installing 14.9.2 on top I did notice the problem. Since last time I tried RC1 we have had a new build of windows 10. I am going to completely remove AMD drivers now and try RC1 again to see what its like on my system. Like mtrai suggests it could be installation issue.
The preview automatically installed the 14.9 driver for me and it works fine. The machine is my Llano laptop with only the integrated 6620G GPU which didn't play well in Windows 7 with anything newer than 13.4 so it's surprising how well the 14.9 works in Windows 10.
Thank you for your answer guys! I reinstalled Windows Tech Preview completely this morning and will try to update to the new build before installing the drivers the way @mtrai told. I'll let you know how it goes. Regards, Rafael
Hello guys, I have done a lot of different tests and here is my findings (for now): 1) Firstly, installed all the updates and also the new build; 2) The one to blame is actually the Intel Graphics. I am not sure, but I reinstalled the Tech Preview and the AMD Driver was already installed (maybe it got installed during the time I left my PC on). Anyway, I successfully updated the AMD driver to version 14.9 WHQL and no problems so far; 3) Each time after I install Intel driver (mine is 4400), the lags start. First of, to install it, I had to edit the .inf file and remove the restriction Intel has included for Windows Threshold and apply it with driver signature off. Then, when I restart, no deal =( 4) Tried two latest versions from Intel Website and one from Microsoft Catalog; 5) Also changed some settings on the driver panel but no luck... I know this is the AMD area but if you guys find something please, post here. I am not sure about your configuration (probably the ones without problem just have AMD Graphics) but mine is a mix of Intel 4400 + AMD 8670M. Regards
It has been a while since I have used any onboard graphics so alas I will be of no help. Quick question can you live without the onboard for now? Yeah I just run AMD, chipset, cpu, and graphics. I recall in the early days of a previous windows that I had issues with onboard intel graphics for a while.
Yes, I can live without it since I don't play anything here. In the meantime, I will try to find a solution. What I did realize is the moment I update the Microsoft Basic Driver to Intel HD Graphics, before rebooting, everything runs smoothly... as soon as I reboot, boom.. Hoping it is just a setting or additional component and can be fixed on regedit or files. Anyway, thank you guys! I will let you know if I make any progress. Regards, Rafael
I do not manage to make decent drivers for Windows 10, since they can not even operating systems already in use for some time, AMD lost with its drivers
I think what Pipes meant was: "Doubt any AMD driver will work fine on Win 10, seeing how AMD still can't get it right for Win 8 which has been out for some time. They have lost their way with driver development." That is the way I interpret Pipes' post. English is not Pipes native language, just guessing. Viva Italia ?
I understood the same.. but (this time) is not AMD's fault... just wish it was, the development for AMD and NVIDIA graphics is way better than for Intel...
The windows 10're still in the testing phase. some games are waging here. but the best fps that are in w8.1.
Made my 290X go black! win 10 tech preview made my screen flicker and loose sync and go black after is automatically installed 14.2.1008 (i think - someone please verify that version?). I had to disable auto install of drivers in group policy and install the Omega drivers which were stable. I think my 290X is at fault though. Always black screens on AMD beta drivers anyhow. Something isnt right with it. Asus overclock is broken if you ask me.
