I wanted to start this thread to help explain some of the exciting features we've implemented in this new AMD Gaming Evolved title which has just been released.

This is not about benchmark results, this is information about the technology behind the numbers. Information about the power that Mantle puts in the hands of the developer. The reason why developers have been calling out for a new, low level and advanced API. I hope you find it of interest.

    EQAA in Mantle

AMD and Firaxis Games have worked together for months, not only to equip Civilization: Beyond Earth with a Mantle-based renderer, but to refine the Mantle specification with the features that Firaxis wanted to see. Hundreds of collaborative man hours are coming together for AMD Radeon™ customers at this very moment, and the results speak for themselves: fast, beautiful, efficient performance for Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth.

That is the power of the AMD Gaming Evolved Program. We hope you enjoy one more turn!

Does EQAA running over in Mantle have the same overhead as MSAA?

It should have a slightly higher performance cost than MSAA, but in return you get superior anti aliasing.

Since when is EQAA an 'exciting new feature" of Mantle?

This is the first Mantle game that automatically applies a higher quality of anti aliasing (EQAA) for Radeon users in a game without any additional required input from the user. Previously it was impossible via CCC to hook into a Mantle and apply EQAA because everything was in the hands of the developer. Well this time the developer and AMD have worked to ensure that higher quality AA is automatically applied for Radeon users when you select ingame MSAA. It should be noted that EQAA is automatically applied for Radeon users using DirectX and Mantle.

OK, so Civilization automajically applies EQAA when MSAA is enabled on a GCN card. On older GPU's, EQAA must be manually enabled through CCC.

Is that the main point of this thread? :)

    Really soon. :p

It's OK I know you have a job to do.... And you get some credit for not posting benchmarks. :p

Thanks Phil. I really wanted this to be about the tech rather than posting our own benchmark scores. If people click the link they can see those at their own discretion.

EQAA has been around for years, it's known as "enhance application settings" if you use RadeonPro....:)

I think youve missed the point Pill.

Most people dont even bother with overrding CCC settings.

Firaxis will do it for you now if you have GCN without you having to deal with it.

And it wasnt even available in mantle games till now.

I have only few question about Mantle:
    - how many months passed since it got announced
    - how many months passed since 1st game supporting Mantle got launched
    - how many months passed since we have working Mantle Driver

    And mostly of all:
How many more months till we can use Mantle SDK. (When will be http://developer.amd.com/mantle/ accessible to public.)

What's the point of your first three questions?

Very simple, for everyone to see how much time past and how much more will pass.
Mantle SDK should have been available even if on "AS IS" basis, so even smaller studios and interested people could learn its mechanics.
No other party can choke Mantle better than AMD by keeping it from programmers hands.

Why do you need the SDK?

-How many months passed since the DX12 announcement?
-How many months passed since the 1st game supporting dx12 got launched?
-how many months passed since we have a working dx12 driver?

    And mostly of all:
How many more months till we can use DX12 SDK.

    see what i did there?
