Thye next gen enthusiast platform Broadwell-E chips, e.g. upcoming processors like the Core i7 6960X - 6930K and 6820K have a renewed launch date. That would be in one to two years from now in 2016 a...

Makes sense, by the time X99 hits Broadwell-E mainstream will already be in Skylake town, probably preparing for CannonLake :D

Who is going to want to buy a 2 year old chipset in 2016?

Lucky (?) there isn't much of a reason to upgrade cpus these days, between tiny incremental updates and overpriced enthusiast chipsets you either have to be bored or rich and just want to upgrade...'cos.

I guess people who have little choice if they need those extra cores. Not like we didn't know this was coming late, Intel have had delays with their 14nm process. Not to mention they have like no competition in this space whatsoever lol

Wonder what it means for the Xeon server versions, for Enterprise etc waiting for the 14nm stuff

Not sure what to upgrade to now, may just go 5770K broadwell when it comes out and make that my last quad core until Skylake-E in like 2017-18 or whatever lol

Oh dude don't even get me started.

I was planning on going x99 and a 5930k, but went 970sli instead.

Hoping that skylake will be a viable upgrade.. and, we wait.

Please tell me its a typo error 2015 instead of 2016.
its retarded to delay boardwell 2 years later.

^ same here this 3770k will last me a good while now with consoles making anything past 8 threads useless at least for everyday use and normal gamers.

Is it such a bad thing that you don't have to spend money and upgrade ur mobo and cpu to have decent performance? I am still running an i7-980x gulftown system and I'm probably going to stick with it until we see 6 core cpus that can fit in a mini itx board (maybe 10nm cannonlake?)

Since you dont need to upgrade pc's as much you can buy other really cool things. I bought the new 55" OLED set for 3000 off cleveland plasma online instead of upgrading to x99 and I am getting more enjoyment from this oled set than I would from the minor speed bump upgrading from x58. Believe it or not the i7-980x clocked at 4.2ghz still runs everything quick and smoothly as long as you have a decent gpu and decent ssd.

Only thing I need to spend money on is a GM210 gpu when they get released next fall and I ordered a 1TB samsung 850 pro when amazon had them priced at 549.99 even though I only need 512GB it was too good of a deal as the 512GB ones are going for 400.

So don;t be upset guys. This is actually a good thing that we don't need to keep buying new mobo's and cpu's. Use the money you would normally spend upgrading your core components to get cool things like better peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, webcam. Better monitor with 4k or g sync. Better speakers or headphones or mics. Hell even a better desk or pc chair. There's lots of other things you can spend your money on. This is actually a blessing in disguise.

I'm not sure where you guys see Boadwell going for 10 physical cores, as that graphic in the news post still shows 6 and 8 cores for Broadwell-E.

But, of course, I share sympathy with my fellow X58 users, but this one doesn't change my plans to upgrade to Haswell-E in 2014 in any way...

That depends on what games you play, too, but imho I guess you can still wait for Skylake. Maybe our more veteran users here will have better insight though.

And probably Z87 as well, but intel won't confirm it just yet.. Ok Intel CEO said it back in September 2013, but then they quickly changed their mind @ DC IDF march 2014, saying nope no DevilsCanyon for Z87 and well know now that's not true.

Both platforms use PCH Z87 as base, Z97 has only few extras in IMEI, nothing serious that it won't make Z87 BD compatible. You will see ;)

But then again I won't update to it, this atm @ 4.7ghz is plenty for me, well I probably would if it was a bad OC'er ~4.2ghz max..

I think my next chip will be Skylake-E with 8cores, so the thing after X99 chipset, X179?
