I'd like some opinions. Should I buy a new gtx 970 or should I upgrade my system? I'm currently sitting on a SB 2600k at 4.5GHz, stable. Been running this for at least 2 years now, I think. The only "problem" I have with this rig is that I don't have pci-e 3.0, my mobo is one of the first ones, so it's pci-e 2.0 - Does this give like any remarkable effects? Anyways, give me some input on what you think I should do.
My backup rig is a 2600k @ 4.6ghz with a Kingpin 780ti and it works very very well. I say get a better gpu!!! The pcie 2.0 is not going to hold it back.
It should be like 2x 580GTX, regardless of cpu missing pcie3.0 edit: ah you have 670gtx, well it that case its still around 2x 670gtx.
You don't think I will have to upgrade my rig anytime soon, so GPU is the way to go? I know the intel is coming with new cpu's in 2015.
I would like to avovid stuttering at all costs, I know this is something that can occur when you use SLI.
Good to hear it's still strong enough to keep up! Been very pleased with it so far, one of the few cpu's I've actually had for a while.
Hell yes, I'll be keeping my 2600k until it dies lol. I don't use that rig as much since I have my trifire beast, but when I do it never lets me down. BF4 @ 1440p 100fps, watchdogs played incredibly well on it, and I also play a lot of arma 3 on it lol. Batman Arkham City also 1440p around 100fps no issues. No stutters or frame drops. Get that 980 and you'll be very very pleased, just OC the hell out of the gpu
It can also be dogy SLI bridge fault, try fixed instead of flexible http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/sli/bridges I've read this here @guru3d, one guru3d member changed flexible with fixed all his stutters went away.
The issue was microstuttering in the past with gpu`s older than kepler and maxwell. 580 sli was not bad at all but on older cards like 2 7800gt, 1 or 2 295, 2 8800gtx it was a common issue. amd fixed it as well but only on dx11 titles iirc with their frame pacing drivers.
Software hasn't advanced enough to make a CPU upgrade worth it. Unless you constantly encode or something, I wouldn't bother.
Unless you just have a strong need to own the "latest and greatest" processor....there's no need to upgrade yet. You'll benefit considerably more from a GPU upgrade, than a CPU upgrade if your goal is gaming. Unless you're in my position that is....lol. No GPU upgrade will ever help me.
The pump on my Glacer 240L failed. Coolermaster expects me to remove, repackage and ship the entire unit back to them and wait for them to ship me another one back. I tried to get them to just replace the pump itself, but they refused. Instead of dealing with Coolermaster, I'm either going to get the XSPC kit that chispy has listed or the Swiftech H220X. When I get some free time, I'll put my Antec Kuhler 620 back in temporarily.
