I am wondering if a single 980 could replace my bios-modded titan sli ? (able of h24 1100/1752Mhz frequencies) This on 5760*1200 (6.9millions pixels) surround. In the OP it says so (8.8millions pixels), but in reallity ? Given that i like tweaking games Multiple interests in changing card system: less watts, less heat, no more sli "difficulties" Would it be a sensible thing to go for ? Thanks folks and have fun
If you read even a single gtx980 review you would see that at 4k for example gtx980 in sli only gets 35 frames in crysis 3. Give that your res is higher than 4k then no, not unless you like gaming at 15 frames in any demanding games.
True, I wrote without thinking, but the point remains. You said you like tweaking, well Tomb Raider ar 1080p with 4SSAA runs at about 45fps average in game. Triple monitors and bam, there is your 15 frames. Crysis 3 runs around 50 average maxed out, 60 overclocked, divide by 3 for your triple monitors and... Unless you intend to play diablo 3, 5 or more year old games like Race Driver Grid then I wouldn't even consider it. 980 overclocked would stuggle with 1600p in modern games maxed out let alone triple 1080p monitors. Titan SLI would have at least 50% higher performance.
My 980 is about 30% faster than my 780, or about 15% faster than a titan, let's just say that sli has perfect scaling for argument sake, that's an 80%+ performance loss at perfect scaling, and 50% or more loss at typical scaling.
I understand and thank you for your input really, I am so thinking to test that because of the reduction of watts, heat, ... kind of expansive just to test. Will wait then Thx again
If it's a question of upgrading from 2 titans to 2 gtx 980s then yes it would save money on electricity but the money you would lose even by selling the 2 titans would be more than you would save. It just isn't a big enough of an upgrade to justify it really, even if you are brimming with cash it would be hard to justify. If a gtx 980ti model comes out then maybe it would be worth considering as the performance upgrade would be better but that would be a lot of money. Personally I think 4k and triple monitors are just too far beyond the hardwares capabilities yet. I think with tri sli 980's you could get away with it.
I think you're right yes The only games that bring my fps under 40 are W_D, MLL, Crysis 3, ACbf, WNO, FC3, but rarely drop under 28. I always force Vsync because screen tearing is just horrible. Might not be interesting yet
Well in farcry 3 gtx980 performance with 4msaa is about 45% faster than a gtx780 so if you had 980sli you would get a massive boost in that game. Some games like that though are much faster but in others it might be only a small boost like 15%(per card). That would be a 30% performance boost at a minimum as well as the energy savings but yeah...money.
I can see how not suffering from various sli support issues would be nice, but youd see a performance loss of about 40%, if you went from titan sli to a 980... and in my book, that would be a very bad decision to make that trade down, despite what issues there may be with gk110 sli.
I know but as a single 980 would fall far short of his performance requirements I thought it was worth mentioning potential performance gains from 980 sli...seeing as he has already gone the sli route before etc
Thx Dorlor, I've made my decision not to do this @fantaskarsef yes, one card in deed. I think he knows but speaks about a more attractive situation given my circumstances. I'd like to avoid SLI as much as possible. Will wait to see if anything like a 980Ti or else comes out later.
exactly as i thought yes. had 8800gtx XFX, 3870x2, 570 sli, 670 sli, 680sli, Fancy the idea torun a single mighty card finally
Yeah wait for full high-end Maxwell first and then see where you're at Do you even know 2x GK110 performance? that lousy 10fps difference (in perfect scenario) with 980gtx vs 780ti is nothing. Usually 4-7fps http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...dia-geforce-gtx-980-performance-review-7.html One would silly be to change from high-end to this mid-range perf. chip. Ok sli vs sli might be different but still, too little difference. Its like saying 2x 580gtx is too slow vs 680GTX and we all know that is not true.
